4 people killed at Carl Cox gig

Sure, it has nothing to dow ith the music genre..

But i don't think its fair to say those people were not innocent. We've all been in crowded clubs, dancing shoulder to shoulder and any lunatic firing off a gun is not going to be pointing ata still target, when people are jumping around, waving hands in the air, lasers and lights flashing all around.

For those who have seen the video, in the second shooting, where the guy / girl comes back and everyone takes off runing and screaming again, ... that was just some poor random kid who was running out of the club with the crowd!

thing is though, by providing the information above , it will just make everyone, (myself included) search for more info... and then you get the full story and videos...

Of course I realise that, and I obviously wanted to bring the story to people's attention. I have no problem with people searching/viewing the video on their own, I just don't think it should be posted on public message boards, for many reasons- I happened to open the video unaware of how graphic it would be (I thought it was a newscast or something). Now that I am viewing it sober, it is even more disturbing:cry:

True. True.

But when's the last time you heard a hip hop track with inspirational non ego driven lyrics?

On the R&B end it's all a load of whining pansys going, "OOoooh I love you girrrrrlllll"

and on the harder end it's, "blah blah, shot him, blah, listen to ME, blah blah blah, me me me, isn't it difficult living in the hood...blah blah, pu$$y guns & crime, fast cars" *yawn* boooooring male driven pap.

I never hear anything profund that breaks this mould.

House just tends to be a bit less ego driven and positive which is why this event is so surprising.

You almost expect it at hip hop gigs (i.e. - Ministry & Brixton academy gun shots)

But still => @ me for spouting my views when I clearly know nothing about hip hop.
Hiphop track that is thought provoking

Ludicris/ Mary J Blige

Runaway love
Give it a listen.

I am not defending violent lyrics in hip-hop, but using music as a reason is a poor excuse. If you are not violent it will not matter what you listen to. IMO

True - any excuse to run down hip hop in my book and I'll jump on it.

It just gets right on my t!ts.

I'd rather call MJB a soul singer and then we're both happy. ;)

The point I was making is that having been on the scene for so many years with comparitively little voilence to that of other clubs (particularly leicester sq and naff rude boy places) it's shocking and quite sad to see something like this.

Anyway, we're going around in circles now.

Hip hop artists can and do address many different subjects and issues. Perhaps one rapper that describes situations many on this board could relate to is Mike Skinner from the Streets in 'Blinded by the Lights':

How did he not find the baggy, with his hand in my shoe?
Way too close for me, ah well at least they allowed me through.
Should be a good night in here, rammo in the main room,
People keep pushing me though, no reception on the phone...

These look well speckly, bit of green and blue,
Freeze is well cheap though, so i'll take three if i need to.
Right im on the plan, I wish the bouncers would go away,
Borrow water off this man, here goes nothing OK,

Thats proper rank, that tastes like hairspray
I hate coming to the entrance, just to get bars on my phone,
You have no new messages, so why haven't they phoned?
Menu, write message, so where are you and Simone?
Send message, Dan's number, where've they gone?

Why's the message pending? where the **** are ya?
Hmm, brandy or beer? Waters a good idea,
Wish that bar lady'd appear, and come serve over here.
Where the **** could they be? still not over in the corner,
This nights a tragedy, I keep thinking I saw her.

No that's not them, that's not them either...

I'm still not feeling anything, this has got to be a dud.
It's been ages since I necked it, and smoked six tabs to the nub.
Belly's not even tingling, I just feel a bit pissed.
No-one looks like minglin', i cant see her or him..

I'm gonna do another i think. Yeah, one more, these are ****.
These toilets are a piss take, queue's bigger than the door.
Gotta get rid of this pill taste, what are they chattin' so much for?
Glad I'm not a girl in this place, they'll be here til dawn.
Sure my belly's tingling a bit, somethings happening I'm sure...

Maybe I shouldnt have done the second one, I feel all fidgety and warm...
Whoa, everything in the room is spinning, i think I'm going to fall down,
My heart's beating too quick, I'm ****ing tripping out.
I wonder whether they got in, turned away no doubt.
Who cares, this is a tune coming in, that who where he's like..

My eyes are rolling back, I'm rubbing my thighs with my hand.
Yeah yeah they cheer - can they see my hand in the air?
Need to wave 'em over here. Swear Simone's kissing Dan.
My head is twisted sever, body's rushing everywhere,
They could have texted me when they were near, but I'm ****ed and I don't care.

What was I thinkin' about? Ah who cares, i'm maaaashed.
(People pushin' by, and walkin' off into the night)
Totally ****ed, can't hardly ****in' stand.

That said, as you point a lot of hip hop lyrics do revolve around guns and crime, and that can and surely does have an effect on the audience.

However I don't think Carl's tune selection could be accused of causing this particular incident. I was impressed by the quick yet controlled way he lowered himself out of danger once informed of the situation.
