PRESS RELEASE 28/09/05
Even though we are temporarily 'off air' bside is still going strong as ever and now that the summer is becoming a welcomed memory in the minds of many, I would like to fill you in on our current activities, starting with the most important, my fund raiser this weekend, where I will be djing non stop for 24 hours. The charity Jill Canney and I have chosen is called A.P.N.E.E.F ( association of persons with necessities in eivissa and formentera ).
I was taken back when I saw the information about what is mainly children with special needs and it was the photo of my friends daughter on the front cover that swung it. Jill Canney is a long time friend of mine and her knowledge and experience in fundraising is essential in making this event a success and raising as much money as possible.
Why dj for 24 hours? well I may only be allowed to dj for 22 hours by law (licensing laws) and for this occasion an application has been made for an extension of 2 hours, however I am still waiting for the outcome. So why 24 or 22? I say "why not" with so much money changing hands during the summer to fatten the already fat, I thought would'nt it be nice to throw a party with a challenge and raise money from an industry that is more about taking than giving.
What gave me the idea? Well during the summer I became very good friends with Jamie Lewis the boss at Purple Music (a global house label that has quality written all over it) he has actually dj'ed non stop for 32 hours in a club in switzerland. This was a challenge I had to try, so for my first attempt I set my goal at 24 hours. Jamie kindly took me through some tips and techniques of what to eat and what not to drink etc, I have also roped in the services of a medic, Carlos from Can Misses Hospital has advised me on certain foods that stimulate the brain and enhance concentration.
So why so much to look into before I take the challenge? well for your information a session of 24 hours consists of approximately 12 mixes per hour multiplied by 24 = 288 mixes, now a normal session dj will play for 2-3 hours max which equals to approximately 36 mixes, so now you can see why all the above is necessary to pull it off.
Posters of the challenge aptly named by Jill "CLOCKWISE" will be going up shortly around the island to mark the event that will be held at the GRIAL (avenida 8 agosto) in ibiza town.
I will be inviting various djs to come down on the day and lend me an hour of their tunes to play so that I can keep the musical quality high. One confirmed dj that will be bringing down an hour of his vinyl to the event is Dj Gee from Bora Bora, and to top it he has pledged me 300 euros as well "Thanks Gee".
I will also be streamlining the event live on www.freqlive.com thanks to my good buddy Ryan O'Gorman from 'Electric Sex'.
So just to recap, the 24 hour dj marathon will take place at the Grial in Ibiza town, I will start at 08.00 Saturday morning the 1st October and end at either 06.00 or 08.00 Sunday the 2nd of October where I will be attempting to play a non stop 24 hour set in the aid of charity.
To make the whole event a success, I will need to raise as much money as possible, how can you help? its easy, just turn up on the day and make a pledge, I will also have a large bin next to the decks for the ones who find loose change in their pockets annoying, the management at the Grial will be donating a percentage of the takings to the charity and the accounting of the event will qualified by an accountant, during the day pictures painted by the kids will be displayed at the Grial and will be for sale.
During the day may well known faces will be visiting, so come down and join in the party and to see if i'm still standing.
