2016 opening party reviews

haha icey, I do know exactly her :)
what ?? tell more ... i'm all ears ;)
doesn't she has some amazing moves with her arms etcpp ... all very "reduced" (or how to call that) ... but spot on !!

ps:
i found these dancers - and especially HER =》fantastic.
way way better f.e. than the gogos @ pacha (solomun+1) !

even though es paradis as a club isn't the hottest thing of ibiza nowadays, they somehow always have amazing dancers. I think this everytime I go.

mosaic by maceo opening party, pacha, 24th may

was only there for a little more than 2 hours, but enough to see it. main room VERY busy. funky room nicely busy too. agents of time live were great, maceo then took over and it was time for me to leave as I had to get up early today. maceo is playing from almost the exact same spot as solomun does so that's good IMO. really good start for this party. admittedly there wasn't any competition going on last night, but I'm still pleased to see it started so well. one important detail I wanted to point out the other day already but forgot: you don't get in pacha anymore in vests/tank top/wifebeaters (or however you name them)

mosaic afters have kicked off earlier in a villa I believe. haven't got time to go, but it's a house I've been to last year once ;)

Ah what! Gutted about that mean's I'll have to bring 1 tee then o_O

fair bit of club hopping last night...

eden opening, 25th may

got there at around 1:30am or so. club was very, very busy which was great to see. I've been vocal about eden actually being a great club nowadays and I am really hoping they have a decent summer. the kickoff was a success for sure. music wasn't anything groundbreaking, tech house and at a pretty commercial level of it, but people had a great time and that's what counts really.

dance 88/89 opening, sankeys, 25th may

quick visit to sankeys after eden. really only stayed for 20mins to see how it was doing. the LAB was busy - not packed, but simply perfectly busy and Mr C was just playing (george morel - let's groove). I can see this being a comfy busy night all summer long, some dates less busy while others will probably be VERY busy.

my house opening, pacha, 25th may

another flying visit before bed was martin solveig's night - very busy. just stopped by to see it with my own eyes. bed after that!

no clubbing tonight, but friday - tuesday will be quite something then!

roundup of the last few nights...

destino opening party, 27th may
friday was a very busy night so I headed to destino first and just quickly. friends of mine were staying there so went to say hello. was there round 7pm and it just only really started getting busy and the music level was also still pretty low. when I left an hour later lots of traffic was coming in up to destino though and judging by pics and comments, it was well busy after sunset and I'm sure they put up the music louder later too.

IMS grand finale, dalt vila, 27th may
next stop was dalt vila. got there just as nicole moudaber started playing and quite enjoyed her set. overall I think I've seen better editions of dalt vila parties and I believe it also wasn't sold out this year (unlike last year for example), but this event I'll always support simply because of its location. it's also one of the events that really mark the proper start of the season for me, IMS (conference) done and big openings ahead!

HEART opening party, 27th may
after a quick pitstop it was then time for heart. got there at 1am and wolfgang haffner trio did their live thing from around 1:30am onwards. was really nice, just one of the pieces they played was too slow/quiet for the actual time of the night, but I still enjoyed it. then sven väth started and the dance floor was packed. I knew I still wanted to go somewhere else and also I knew I'm gonna see papa sven for a longer sesh pretty soon so we left at around 3:30am. they haven't changed anything of the hardware in heart compared to last year, the only thing they have changed is that the rooftop terrace is now just a bar and mo more street food market. i did like that concept last year so that's a bit of a shame, but the terrace is at least still there and it's a great place to have a drink and socialize. I am sure that the venue will be very busy on sundays, but if there's any truth to those rumors about guests for openlab and boogie in wonderland plus select tuesdays we're in for a strong heart summer.

privilege opening party, 27th may
last stop for the day was privi. got there at around 4am, basically just waiting for vista club to open. main room was an EDM fest (but that was clear checking the line up) and it was busy, but not packed. vista opened at 5am eventually and was nicely busy for the sunrise session. it emptied out a bit sooner than what people expected I think and we finally called it a night at 9am. off to bed!

ushuaïa opening party, 28th may
after a lazy day spent in bed and on sofa I got my sh*t together just before the sun left and arrived at ushuaïa at around 8:30pm. as expected it was packed and it was one of those few occasions where I was actually glad that with my press pass I could go up to the cloud (the vip bit at the very back) where things weren't as bad and I had a little more space. I'm normally totally a 'dance floor all the way' person, but in this case I preferred to stay away. musically I got the last bit of joris voorn and a chunk of hot since 82. well..I am neither a big fan of ushuaïa nor the type of tech house that was played at that time so it just wasn't for me, but you people around me had a blast. there were a few good tunes every now and then but generally not my cuppa tea. left at around 10:30pm and headed for a quick pad thai at chopstiqs.

amnesia opening party, 28th may
got to amnesia a bit before midnight. I had heard that the club only started to filling up at/around sunset and had also heard that ricardo villalobos started later than planned, so when I got there both the club as well as RV were in full swing. it wasn't completely packed at first, but it was just right. also ricardo was in good form, he played one of his trademark 'good' sets, means lots of energy, lots of crossfader use (prince's when doves cry in an out for about 20 minutes and it worked a treat) and not the weird afterhour sounds he sometimes plays (they can be cool, but must be at afters!). after him mar-t and cuartero played back to back. this was more tech house/techno, but still pretty good. by that time amnesia was VERY busy and also the main room (amine edge & dance were playing) was full by then. I didn't stay for apollonia and left at around 3am.

...everything so far was just a warm up. my proper opening parties happen today, tomorrow and tuesday ;)

Can't stop won't stop eh Stivi?

Yeah, Villalobos set at Amnesia Opening was very nice! After the first 20min I thought its going to be another of his f***ed up sessions...but then he started things going!! At the end of his set a great farewell to Prince! And this one track with "Get nasty"...somebody has the track ID?? Stivi:)?? What a tune!!

Edit:
Some words to Heart: WOW! Great set from Papa Sven!

Went to space for a quick early evening boogie on my own in the flight area . Left at 10pm and couldn't believe how busy it was . And outside parking was Chock block almost impossible to park motor .
With that my question is to Stivi, is this the busiest opening period yet?

Pure Pacha opening, pacha, 21st may

got there around 4-4:30 and really only went to have a very quick look. in summer, pure pacha is one of pacha's busiest nights (normally just behind fmif), but last night's opening was actually a bit less busy than insane on friday. but as I had explained, in low season it always depends heavily on what other nights are on offer. insane had zero competition on friday whereas last night there was es paradis and tribal sessions at sankeys apart from pacha. and let's not forget the 2nd ANTS warmup, lots of people will just have stayed in pdb after that. so even though pure pacha last night wasn't the busiest, it'll change soon I'm sure.

I left Insane as music was too boring for me around 2.30 am :No way im back for a Vagabundos party
Tribal sessions was a nice quiet busy party the music is far FAR better than Luciano
Pure Pacha or rather Paris by night ,was a good party for the time ive experienced it from 5.00 to end 7.00 am

solomun+1 opening party, pacha, 22nd may

very very busy. and even though I didn't think it was an especially great S+1, it's still the night pacha has the best vibe. knew about the afters but couldn't because of work and sadly also missed dc10 opening yesterday. olthers will report I'm sure.
im in for the after party for closin , send a private message if dont mind :p

ok with a bit of delay here are two more...

space opening, sunday 29th may
got in just before 7pm and headed straight to the sunset terrace first. alex pott and ion pananides (elrow and KER residents) are friends of mine and they opened up that room so there was no way I was going to miss them. after they played our group made it to the car park and stayed there until it closed (2am that was). as you can see tastes are different and contrary to GP above, I loved dennis ferrer's set and then especially booka shade's performance. hearing some of their old hits such as body language, mandarine girl and in white rooms (just to name a few) on that floor was amazing and the vibe was goosebumps central all over the place. morillo also did a good job. I have said this in the past, but for us locals space opening is still THE opening party - everyone is there, it's a big hello all night long and it being the last ever space opening made it even more special. the closing will be a bit of a sad one for sure, but the opening was a super happy affair.

once the car park was shut we regrouped in el salon and stayed there for a long time. only ventured into terraza and discoteca in the morning hours and closed space when it shut (8am-ish). a lot of friends said the same - even though the line up wasn't huge, it was one of the best space opening parties EVER. the atmosphere was just fantastic. it's just what I always say - with space opening and closings, it's really not about who plays, it's about the vibe that will be there anyway.

slept all day monday and then got up in the evening for...

cocoon opening party, amnesia, 30th may
we got into amnesia at midnight and the terrace was already nicely busy. the main room wasn't that busy yet, but neither empty. by 2am the club was VERY busy everywhere and as said in another thread, it was the busiest cocoon opening party in years. great atmosphere too. we spent all night on the terrace. both dixon and sven did a good job, but being perfectly honest I've seen both of them better. dixon was a bit too flat for my liking and sven's set missed the 'drama' he's normally so so good at. both played really good music, but as a fond cocoon fan I've obviously seen many sets of both guys and I've just seen better. still, great night and packed until the music went out at 6:30am.

afters then somewhere in the north. dorian paic played first and later sven and it was only then when sven dug out that sort of music you only get from him. so many amazing tracks (and so many I couldn't ID so will take me all summer until I have them). effin' fantastic.

slept lots since then and am now feeling recovered. taking a break from clubbing until sunday now, but see everyone at space for our first el salon takeover!

at Destino around 7.00pm music was great House music before the sunset, as the night came music was fine but it could be more euphoric tech House

we came into ushuaia around 8.00pm & music was great, after Andrea de oliva , the music took shape of quiet boring tech house, havin some pre drinking in Parking close to Space for 45mn.....guess if im back i will go earlier to Ushuaia closin & leave around 10.00 pm max...unles last djs plays euphoric music...
