2004: Worst year for me.

I have waited for the comedown (chemical and psychological) to wear off to write this, but can still say this was my worst year in Ibiza.
I have enjoyed every year, for the last 4 years, to the max: some years went twice.
This year was a let down. Maybe I went too early. Maybe the excitement has worn off. But I have to say there was something lacking this year.
The nights I chose where carefully planned with long rests in between to allow for more cultural activites in the car around the island.
My first night was probably my best: Defected Opening@ El Divino. Great night, great crowd: Junior Jack rocked.
We Love Sundays was tripe. Not only was DJ lineup crap (I mean: come on! Its the opening party for god's sake!), the crowd was too thin to create an atmosphere in the day time. We found ourselves walking around for something to do. In the evening it filled out more. The supposed interior change translated to the bar being moved slightly, but nothing revolutionary. Same old, same old. Be nice if they did something different here. I hate to say it, but I enjoyed dancing indoors more than outdoors this year?!?
Nice little after party @Es Vive bar was cool and cosy.....
Underwater@ Pacha: full of teenagers, music was way too eclectic. The R'N'B room was embaressingly empty: poor Trevor Nelson. As for the Funky room: where was everyone?!? I've had bigger parties in my living room. Such a shame as I love throwing some shapes in there with that nice party feel the room usually has.
Other than that I have to say Bora Bora was wicked. Its always delivers the goods. Everyday I went was a feast: so much messy fun.
I was able to show my buddies Es Vedra, Cala D'Hort, Atlantis and other lovely sights people usually don't get to see. Ibiza town was nice at night.
So...I dunno...maybe its cos I didn't go with my girlie, maybe the drugs where pooh...or maybe its time to go somewhere else for my party antics?

Sorry to hear that you didn't have as good time as normal, there's a lot of people off here who were last week and have done reviews in Review section and seems that you are in minority.

Me personally I had some of the best times ever I'd had in June and that was my 13th time to Ibiza, maybe it's you that's changed or were expecting something else from your hols :?

Anyway good to have you back and sorry your holiday didn't live up to expectations :D ;)

It must have been me: which funnily enough is quite encouraging and allows me to keep some faith on the island.
Don't get me wrong: I did have a good time, just not as good as previous times.
You know when you go in to a club, butterflies in stomach, excited about what was to come. That just wasn't happening for me. It was all too familiar.
I speak fluent Spanish, and met a lot of locals. Many of them told me they don't even touch the clubs any more as they are bored of them. Instead they hang out at bars and go to private parties. Its something I see myself doing in the future.
Its still a wicked place: just not as wicked (in my eyes) as it used to be. Damn: I realise I'm becoming one of those "Its not as good as it used to be" bores.
I think I need to explore other scenes in the world. Maybe Thailand or Punta Del Este.
Party on! Viva la Fiesta! :D

Ibiza isn't about R&B, hence i'm actually glad this room was empty and hopefully it'll stay empty during the rest of the summer, so that next summer we can get nonsenses such as Trevor Nelson & Tim Westwood off our beloved island.

All in all too bad Ibiza this year didn't live up to your expectations, but as u said this might have been caused due to 2 reasons:
1 - You didn't go in proper dates
2 - You've had enough of the island and need to explore new places

If Underwater were to place Mutiny in the Global room instead it would probably work better.

I've never had bad year yet.

We never really plan what we're going to do in Ibiza, just tend to go with how we feel at the time and therefore always enjoy ourselves, be it a nice meals and a few drinks or a full on allnighter.

Have to say however that we pushed ourselves to go to DC10 in September after a heavy Space session and regretted it. It was poo and doubt very much i'll return.

I know how a lot of people feel about EsVive, but i love the parties they have, means you can get totally spangled and just crawl upstairs ;)

Do a lot of people not like it or something? I stayed there last year and absolutely loved it! I hope to stay there again the next time I go, that is if I don't get an apartment instead. :D

Its defo no where near as busy this year, especially when you went, it doesn't surprise me that some clubs weren't full. I think it will pick up but i know alot of worried promoters out there.

Promoters say the same thing every year, personally June is my fave time to go, the weather is always lovely and the clubs are busy but nicely busy and with the best crowds without the rammed-ness that comes later in season.

How does 1st week of sep compare with june in terms of how busy the island is????

Ive only ever been in July / Aug before.

Prob about the same, I always find the island itself is generally quieter in Sept but the clubs are really busy.

Just got back

Just got back myself.. had a wicked time over two weeks but left the clubbing until the start of the 2nd week there as the lineups were not what I fancied and I like chilling too (these days!).
Friday 25/Jun - Pacha - Pete Tong = v.busy steady house tunes as you hear on his show
Sunday 27/Jun - Space - We Love = Danny Howels was great, Steve Lawler excellent, James Zabelia Out of this world #1 for me this year.
Thursday 2/Jul - Amnesia - Cream = Packed as last year was for the opening with Oakenfold and it didn't go quiet even in the 2nd room! Tiesto was Tiesto... PVD was slightly harder&faster and then dropped the anthems before going deeper which was a bout 5.30am when I left.

Big downer was all the SunSet bars which did pre-parties for the San Ann clubs which had RnB nights - WE ARE IN IBIZA NOT SOMEWHERE ELSE! RESPECT IT. Yo Yo Yo stay at home boy. e.g. was sat having a drink at Mambo and they started playing RnB after Sunset and so moved to CoastLine which had back by dope demand playing - not too bad for an old classic.. then a few tunes later it was RnB dull never heard before tunes which we annoying.. time to head back to the hotel bar which played some ok music - just not such a glamorous environment!

Big up to the Ibiza government for spending lots of money making the place easier to drive round and for improving things in so many ways.. the people giving out club flyers were really polite and didn't force you to take any flyers - they also have id badges now or they get fined. The pub crawles seem to be gone - maybe replaced by boat tours with alchohol.

Bit of a noticeable lack of high quality new anthems and assorted good tunes this year - a few bars play ShapeShifters Lolas Theme but didn't hear it in the clubs which was sad as although it peaked to early I wanted to hear it in the right environment "a club in Ibiza" to attach a memory to.

The cabbies were saying it was quieter this year and one guy we had was complaining about how inflated prices were taking their toll on tourist numbers.

But I couldn't see much evidence of this myself. Pacha was packed for the Underwater opening and as for La Troya's first night at Amnesia ... I haven't had that little room to move in a club in I don't know how long. At times it was physically impossible to stand up in the main room, let alone make any kind of body movements that could conceivably be called dancing. The terrace was slightly easier but was still rammed at seven in the morning. And the vibe in all the clubs I went to was excellent. Even Pacha, which I would not have bothered with if we hadn't got guest list, measured up in this respect. The teenagers that Pacha Cha complains about made the atmosphere much livelier than it was at, say, Def Mix on Saturday last year when I went. We should be rejoicing if under-20s are not being seduced by rubbish guitar bands. The music was excellent as well as eclectic, mixing new stuff plus oldies. Yeke Yeke was dusted off and the roof duly parted company with the building, as it had when Steve Lawler played a version (tweaked with a sample from Panjabi MCs, if I'm not mistaken) at the We Love Sundays opening inside Space. I missed him on the terrace earlier but his set inside was one of the best I heard out there. And DC10 and Bora Bora were both blinding in their different ways. My hamstrings protested for days after all the dancing they were ordered to undertake. All this and a beautiful island to explore - and that's just Formentera. As you can probably tell, I'm one satisfied punter and only wish I had the cash to get out there again before it's all over for another year.
