12th-15th September - Best Ibiza Visit Yet!

So.... after much debate with the wife I decided to come back to Ibiza this year for a short clubbing break. Long story short our last visit in 2009 didn't go too well. We both got ill a few days into a 2 week stay, it meant we had a pretty shitty time and missed the closing parties. Since then my wife hasn't really had any desire to come back however wasn't pleased when I said I planned on going solo so agreed to come back with me. My thinking was to go for a short break, get in as much clubbing and good food as I could then come home and recover - can't recommend this enough and will be doing it again! Anyway.....

Thursday 12th September

This was the first time I've flown hand luggage only, again something I can recommend if you're able to travel light. Time from arriving at the airport to being on the plane approx 55 minutes including a stop off for food and a pint. We flew with Jet2 but (couldn't make out the whole message) there was a problem and we were transferred onto Titan Airways. Not an issue at all, plenty leg room (I'm 6'4") and for some reason the flight time was only 2 hours 30 minutes as opposed to 3 hours 10 minutes. We landed about 19:00 Ibiza time and again (thank you hand luggage only!) quickly through the airport into a taxi. 28e to San An, we stayed at the Hotol Orosol (on the corner next to the football pitch), checked in and ready to go by 19:45.

The hotel itself was clean and well presented, staff were very friendly and helpful. In the room we had air con, a safe (think it was 3e a day extra), a fridge and various free toiletries including tooth brushes (never seen that before). We paid just over £130 for both of us, B&B for the 3 nights. For the price I haven't seen better. One thing I loved them for was giving us a 'do not disturb' sign for the door, first time an Ibiza hotel has given me one so no being woken up by the cleaner an hour or two after you roll in! Only thing I would mention is when going over the hotel rules one was no alcohol allowed in the rooms, the other no music/noise after 22:00. When the receptionist read these out to us she laughed and said 'is not for you, more for big groups'. We drank in the room and played music at a sensible volume after 22:00 without issue but if you're part of a young and lively group I would maybe look elsewhere - all the other guests seemed to be couples/solo travellers 25+.

So after we got ourselves sorted we popped over the road for some food at Tijuana (literally across the street from our hotel). We've eaten here loads of times before so knew what to expect. Big portions of highly cheesy tex mex, we had enchilada and chimichanga both very nice. Also given a couples of shots of tequila on the house. Think is came to about 40e for us both. Belly's full, back to the room for drinks and to get ready for Space! We headed towards the west end sort of area not really intending to go for a drink but more to get some club tickets however the first PR we bumped into offered to help us out with 'disco supplies' so we came for a drink. The west end never changes man.... I can happily say at 29 I'm way too old to be drinking there. Popped into the Mambo shop for Space tickets, got 5e discount each (so 45e) if we got into Space before 2am. Got the disco bus over (you see some sights on that bus) to Space, walked strait in past the huge internet ticket queue and headed into the sunset terrace. Got a cocktail each from the sake bar which were 20e each and were both lush. I recommend the microdot. We stayed in there for a while enjoying some of Hito's set. Never heard her play before but she was really good. Apparently Hito, Bella Sarris and Nina Kraviz did a b2b2b later in the night but we must have missed that. Also we saw there was a group of magicians doing close hand magic with one another, they didn't mingle with the crowds or gather people round but were standing doing tricks with each other - so I think a group of magicians came to Space and thought they would bring their cards just in case  We had a look round space (it's a been a while after all) and settled in the main room to catch the end of Paco Osuna who was really banging! Again first time and loved what he was playing. One in particular near the end of his set went something like 'I wanna go dancing with you dancing with you all night long. Night dancing.' - tune ID anyone? Hawtin came on a short while later and continued where Osuna left off. After a while we went for a chill out upstairs and then ended up catching Damian Lazerus on the terrace until it closed. He's a particular favourite of my better half so was great to catch some of his set. Once the terrace closed we headed back into the main room, found some space to the right of the dance floor and got back to what I really came for - Hawtin in the main room of Space at dark o clock in the morning :) Finally defeated at around 7.15 we left and got a legal taxi strait away. Main room was still going strong when we left. Amazing, amazing night. Best time I've had in Space and deffo in top 5 clubbing experiences of my life! When I come back I'm going to try and make the pre party just to complete the experience.

Friday 13th September

Woke up feeling fairly fresh. Checked my phone and was that it was 16:30! Wow slept through the whole day! I'm not one for sunbathing and I certainly didn't expect a tan this trip but didn't plan on sleeping all day. Got up and about, found a little bar (really can't remember the name) and sat outside with a few drinks people watching and smiling about the night before. Minutes turned into hours and before we knew it it was getting late so we decided to get some food then prepare for the night ahead. Walking from our hotel towards the bay we passed probably 3 or 4 tapas places which all looked very decent but Meson Es Verro looked particularly good the night before so we got a table outside and ordered up some cocktails. I do love a good strawberry daiquiri and these were very good indeed. We ordered bread, olvies and aioli, fried potatoes garlic, pork ribs, meatballs and calamari - excellent food all round the ribs were a particular highlight for me. Service also very good, our waiter pointed out when we went to order too much food (portions were large for tapas) and just said if we were still hungry he could bring more for us. 50e spend in total so good value as well. Headed back into the room to get ready and decided on a little disco nap which accidentally turned into a couple of hours sleep! Woke up just before 1am and got ready very quickly, headed back to see our friend in the west end for supplies and a quick drink.

We were in two minds about tonight. The intention for me had always been to go to Music On, I love Amnesia as a club and I've never seen Marco Carola however we also wanted to try somewhere new so tried to get some tickets for Flying Circus @ Sankeys. Well all of the ticket sellers I could find were either closed, closing or didn't sell tickets for Sankeys! Last minute change, tickets bought for Music On and jumped in a taxi as we didn't want to wait for the bus. As with the night before we walked strait into Amnesia past a massive internet ticket queue and headed strait into the terrace for a drink - 13e for a beer! Amnesia shame on you! Stacey Pullen was orchestrating proceedings nicely and we found a good dancing spot off to the left of the terrace. Marco Carola came on and things went up a notch or two. Really, really good music all night. Great vibe to the crowd as well. I'd heard things about coked up posers at music on but I didn't see any of that, everyone was there to dance and enjoy the music. I'm a Cocoon goer at heart so I've always been a fan of the main room but the terrace was perfect that night. Hours seemed like minutes and I couldn't believe it when we saw the sun coming up through the roof. Bliss. Ran out of steam just after 07:30 (things didn't look like winding down any time soon) and got a rather dubious taxi back. Again one of the best clubbing nights I've ever had. So much so that if I come back for a few days next year I'll make sure to go to Music On again probably above any other night.

Saturday 14th September

Slept late again. Sort of decided that isn't a bad thing as it gives you time to recover from the night before and as I said before I'm not really the laying on the beach tanning type. Sleeping late today however did have a small consequence - we planned on going to Ants @ Ushuaia mainly as it's a day/evening party and we had a flight home the next day that we didn't want to be really rough for. By the time we got ourselves together and went back to the unnamed bar for a drink it was close to 18:00, we both agreed not to go but to spend the night savouring some good quality food and an abundance of cocktails. Had more daiquiris and mojitos than I care to admit, the best of which I found was in Babel. I think we'll go for food there next time as it was a really nice place. Decided on Es Rebost de Can Prats for our meal, just round the corner from our hotel as well. Lovely looking place inside (feels like your in someone's home), friendly service, amazing food and a good wine list. We had smoked salmon and Iberian ham with figs to start, followed by a steak (can't remember what it came with) while I had the kebab which was served vertical on a hanging spike, profiteroles and a custard tart for dessert. Including olives, bread, aioli and a really nice bottle of white it came to 120e. Would happily have paid more. Superb. More cocktails followed and after that your guess is as good as mine  Must have gone back to the hotel at some point as I woke up in my bed.

Sunday 15th September

Made it down for breakfast for the first time as no naughty things the previous evening. It was basic but OK. Packed our stuff and checked out, left our cases in a side room then decided to head out for a goodbye drink or two. Went over to sunset strip (more just to say we'd been than anything else) and had a beer at mambo - not really my scene even during the day. Too many of the TOWIE lot for me. On the way back we stopped to look at the menu for Villa Mercedes and found ourselves inside for lunch. I've eaten here twice before and both times it was outstanding, this time it was good but didn't hit those heights. Also thought they did a discounted lunch menu which wasn't on (didn't matter in the end as we had enough to cover it but...) and they had BBQ on which we weren't offered and I would really have liked. On the plus side it's a stunning place to sit and eat on the hottest day since we'd arrived. Live band on as well who were very good. Really friendly and attentive service as well. We had cocktails (yes more daiquiris!), starters I had the gazpacho soup, my wife had what was basically egg and chips with some Iberian ham over the top. I was warned that they do the soup differently with berry's but decided to try it - it wasn't bad but was just a bit odd. Mains were fish and steak. Both nice but way too much salt on the potatoes. I won't knock this place as it's one of my favourites but I expected a little better on the food. Paid about 120e.

Headed back to the hotel to use the shower and chill out before getting the bus to the airport. Quick flight back and apart from a few idiots on the flight nothing to report other than a well deserved nights sleep back home.

Overall this might be the best time I've had in Ibiza. Two exceptional nights clubbing, some amazing food and more cocktails than I can remember. When I come again I think a short break is the way forward for me and looking back it was the right decision to just do two nights clubbing. Anyhow it's been fun writing this and remembering the good times we had, I hope I can convince my wife to go back again soon!

PS - I'm off for a lads weekend in Amsterdam tomorrow. Next adventure just over the horizon. Wish me luck.

Hawtin has definitely got something right with Enter, I was there earlier on that Thursday and saw Kraviz on the Sunset Terrace. Nice tracks, ropey mixing!

Es Rebost de Can Prats - Went here last year also. It does not feel like San An when you are there and is lovely and authentic. Good value and attentive staff (did the older guy with the jet black hair serve you?)

Heard that record all week and made it my mission to find it, tiga vs audion lets go dancing

sasha played it at dc10, he played an amazing set, main room was incredible all day, loco dice played it at cocoon that night and paco osuna @ enter too.

I thought enter was decent enough, nina kraviz was doing a back to back set with hito and bella saris, could barely even hear it though, Damien lazarus was decent on the terrace

For sure, I mean I'm a big Hawtin fan anyway but that was by far the best experience I've had in Space. Everything down to the decoration and cocktails but mainly the different styles of music in the different rooms. Really didn't disappoint. And yeah was a short older guy with black hair. The place had the look of someone's house and the food was outstanding which I agree makes you forget you're only 2 minutes stroll from west end!

You my friend are an absolute legend! We've been singing that to each other since we heard it but really had no idea what it was. Space really went off when he played that and it was probably the stand out moment for me. Thanks again!

funny me and my mate were saying the exact same thing, sasha's name at the bottom of the poster barely visable, pure dc10 approach. Heading to this was what i was looking forward to most all holiday but had a horrible start to the monday after waking up outside some random pool in san antonio with no phone and no wallet and mind completely blank. skulked back to the villa and after two bananas and an inspirational pep talk from my mate was talked into going. I'd normally spend most of my day/night in the terrace but there was no reason to leave the main room all day sasha followed by ellen allien then dvs1. without doubt best ever day in Club Whoppicana

I was slightly gutted not to be there on a Monday, Circo Loco/Cocoon is my favorite little combo. And when I saw Sasha was playing at DC10 I thought it might be bit special. Loving that DJ's are playing places you wouldn't normally see them at.

Click the link and go to the page. Then look in the top left hand corner for the 'up' arrow head to the right of the scrolling text. If you left-click this it will switch to radio mode, the 'up' arrowhead will become a 'down' arrowhead and the TV will disappear.

Thanks but was thinking more of a recording? offliberty says no :(

Well I am 35 and not two old to drink in San An! There are a couple of really great little places there (Revs being one of them) where you can blag plenty of free drinks with the friendly staff and get lots of banter in with your mates before hitting the main clubs later on :)

Aw don't get me wrong I've met some nice people in the west end before and a few of the bars are OK but most of it is like a Saturday night in any town in the UK. If it wasn't hot you wouldn't know you were in Ibiza. Possibly if I was over with a group of lads I would feel differently about it but it's not really the sort of place to take your wife, she deserves better than the west end ;)

yep, understand exactly where you´re coming from. I´m still 19 at heart ;) It´s a same the place is as yobby as it is..

One of those solo 25yr+ travellers would be me :). Love the Hotel Orosol, been going there for 6 years.

35 here too. Spent a few nights at the West End when I went in late September, quieter than previous years around this time, but still a good laugh. Found myself in the Highlander bar a few times, consistently busy, and the Scots know how to party.
