03/08/08 - 18/08/09 15 Stressful, but amazing days in Ibiza.

... We eventually checked in, we had no aircon,
there was what looked like blood+puke on 1 of the sheets
but aside from that it was ok.

It was certainly not somewhere I wanted to spend any more time
than necessary though ...

... Some Italian ***** grabbed the frame of the door in an attempt
to muscle himself and his friends forward thereby excluding all of us to the left of the door.
His little ***** friend behind me also started repeatedly kicking me in the calf
from behind as I tried to ensure this guy didn't totally exclude us all.
When the guy tried to propel himself up the stairs onto the bus the driver grabbed him and pushed him back which was cool
and after the slimeball made his apologies he was eventually allowed on ... It was ridiculously hectic though ...

... my ****-head friends had tried to get into my suitcase and use my laptop.
I guess they worked out the code but somehow they'd managed
to reset it in the process.
I needed to get out my airbed and pillow ... so I in my wrecked, dead state
had to spend 40 minutes trying out every combination
until it eventually opened..

... the negative situation which had turned out to be positive
(had I not had my passport stolen I wouldn't have made it to a 3rd Cocoon ...

Melodramatic much? Surely you can accept that large groups with all their belongings in suitcases are very nice pickings for gangs and it's not the same in the UK. These guys can operate with impunity as a result of an indifferent (dare I say incompetent?) police force and thus such gangs can thrive. It's pretty clear that is what is going on, and I never said I'm not going to Ibiza again I want to return for closings. Only that when I do I won't bring things like my laptop and I would rather not stay in a villa as I feel remote villas are much easier targets than busy hotels/apartments..

can i suggest you google 'london crime pickpockets etc' and see how many links appear on the subject? i would suggest, purely from personal experience, that ibiza police are neither more nor less indifferent/enthusiastic in their job than their british counterparts.

statistically any visitor to any country in the world could be a victim of crime, and statistically, very few of the perpetrators will ever be caught and punished.

it's the millions of zebras and a few lions syndrome, ain't it?

if this is the case then you should be straight on to holiday rentals about the owner's behaviour. they will and do remove ads from owners who do not toe the line.

Great review, apart from the break in it sounds like an ace holiday 8)

Saturday: This is when we got into the villa to find that it had been broken into and everything had been taken. This included over 2k worth of hired Decks (2 CDJ 1000 Mk3s) + Mixer (DJM 600), but he gestured he had to stop which was fair enough.
I actually saw on facebook the company asking for a the return of the sound equipment, offering a reward.

Amazingly detailed review!
I really enjoyed reading it while feeling sorry for all the bad things that happened to u, However i salute u for trying to look on the half full side of the glass and having fun after all... that's the spirit!

If you're in Ibiza for Space & Cocoon closing give me a shout (here or on Facebook), as i'll be there as well on these dates!

Good review man, and I like your never say die spirit!

I get the point Stephen is making. I don't think people should be put off Ibiza just because of the apparent increase in the reporting of crimes of this nature on this site. But people should be more cautious when renting villas and taking (and renting) valuable items while out there.

Yeah that's fair enough I'm totally in agreement. I'm going back asap, but security will be an even greater priority from now on.

:D:D:D

I went myself on the same night and had a very similar experience. The terrace was just ridiculous.

Haha it's hard to describe the energy and atmosphere it was just insane. Also surprisingly not too difficult to navigate through the crowds. I'm gutted I lost all my pics and vids from that night when the laptop was stolen because they were seriously cool. Some amazing ones with the breaks, ice cannons, dancers and general lunacy.

the whole "villa owner being mates with the decks guy, then wanting to give him your deposit" sounds well suspect

Yeah very suspect indeed. The experience has definitely confirmed my preference for Playa D'en Bossa. As for contacting the villa rental company, it looks like that is going to have to be done. Fingers crossed it can still be resolved amicably though. Edit: Actually before I get accused of rashly dismissing San An + San An Bay on the basis of the robbery, I have to say I generally disliked the feel of the place and had a lot less hassle and trouble in PDB.

I actually saw on facebook the company asking for a the return of the sound equipment, offering a reward.

It really is a massive shame for the company, when we saw the decks were gone we never imagined they wouldn't be insured though. Even the caretaker mate of the rental guy was relaxed about it and said he should be covered.

I'm seriously hoping I will be! The thought of it is actually what's keeping me going right now haha. It's up to the girls though, they have things to sort out for uni, one just wrote off a car in a pretty bad accident and has to get a new one sorted so we'll see. Cocoon on my own I can handle but hitting the closings solo I'm really not too sure about!

Seriously awesome review, man. You handled everything soo well and it didn't ruin your trip. I especially like the "random" night where you just went with the flow. Those are usually the best.

I'm a first timer hitting up the island from the 14th-25th. If you're coming back somewhere in there let me know. I'll also be in London the weekend before if you're out and about.

cheers

Sucks about your misfortune with the robbery, but I'm glad that you made the most of your trip and were able to have some great nights out. BTW, awesome pics as well!

... we got into the villa to find that it had been broken into and everything had been taken ...
... This was a major major shock and too much to deal with after a massive night.
Everyone needed sleep but some had to go to the police station ...
... The police were stereotypically unhelpful and apparently laughted after being told
the villa was broken into.
One then made out he didnt speak English before then saying something
in perfect English.
Eventually a friendlier woman came and dealt with us and all of us had to go down
to fill in crime reports ...
...I waited for everyone to get up and tried to find someone to come
to the police station with me.
My only Spanish speaking friend refused ...
... I got a cab on my own but the police said they couldn't help...

dont´t blame it on the police.
imagine you had to work in that heat in a uniform and handle all those people
whining because all their stuff is gone forever and of whom probably 95%
don´t speak spanish/catalan.
if i were an ibiza-policeman i probably would go nuts with handling all that ridiculous
amount of paperwork involved which every robbery etc ...

so - next time you get robbed don´t go to that ****ing main police-station
to make a report - avoid at any costs, you will loose at least half a precious day
of your holiday which is ruined anyway and your mood will further decline,
because ibiza´s rundown, filthy, grim, dilapitad main police-station will remind you
of a third-world-country -
i once felt the exact same "atmosphere" in a police-station in tijuana/mexico :)

actually there is a very good service from the police when you get robbed.
you have to call a certain number where you can talk to an operator who
connects you to a person speaking your language (don´t know exactly which
languages are available, but english/german/french/etc is no problem).

that person asks you all the questions you would otherwise fill in some form
by yourself. they translate it for you and send it to the police-station in ibiza.
they give you a number.

all that stuff you can do with 1 phonecall, no hassle, no trouble !

only thing you have to do then is go to the police-station with that number ...
all paperwork is already done ... you just have to tell them that number
and you have to wait only a few minutes to get the papers you need
for insurance etc - perfect !

here is THE magic number:

0034-902102112

they connect you with someone speaking the language of your choice:

- english
- german
- french
- arab
- italian
- japanese
