New life in ibiza!!

perhaps i'd better explain what my learned friend meant? the perceived advantages of living in a sunshine climate pale into insignificance when you're working so hard in summer trying to make a pittance and scraping around for bits of construction/labouring work in winter not knowing where your next few euros are coming from. despite its rain and miserable climate his prospects for finding better paid, permanent work were much better in Britain.

i lived and worked in barcelona spain 2004-2005
there was more work then and an easier place to find work... but it was still hard.
its only got harder.

much as i would love to move back out here (in barcelona at the mo) things are not good money wise in spain.
im lucky as my inlaws are here so we could move back easier.. but its hard times.
the summer time in ibiza forms a bubble around things so it seems like there is lots of money around.
winter is harder. things are the same in mallorca where my other half has friends.
they, "spanish" work real hard in the summer so they can get through to winter.

i know i may come across as a bit doom and gloom but better to think/know the worst and account for it where possible.

that said im much more relaxed in spain than in the uk... sometimes regret moving back to the uk.. sometimes not.

Hi All,

I'm moving my business over to Ibiza in November and it would be great to meet up with folks also new to the island. I'm moving on my own so the biggest worry here is making new friends and dealing with the initial first months not knowing anyone. It would be great to know how you get on with the move and any advice you can throw my way. Good luck to you and family, it's a great thing your doing. Suzie

Hi Susie would be great to meet up that is 1 of the things my wife is most worried about not meeting friends, I don't know why cos every trip we've had we've been ok but it's different when on holiday.
We're out in September for a week then still waiting for the house to sell , hope to be out by December!!!!!

What's your business?? I have a interview in the uk for a position in ibiza in two weeks.

What are you doing over here? I've just done the same, I'm in a shared office in Santa Eulalia and we might have a couple more desks so let me know if your looking for desk space up this way. Its been quite easy really the hardest thing sorting out internet at home as we're only staying in this place for 3 months and 3G signal is patchy where we live so been through a few different dongles and sims trying to get something that isn't from the 90s!

Hi Everyone Hi Suzie , It's Vinyl Dreams Wife here . Im reading all your posts and Im getting more and more excited as well as a bit apprehensive about new life in Ibiza. I wanted to ask you about hairdressing industry in Ibiza. I'm a hairdresser and hoping to do this over in Ibiza too but cannot speak Spanish yet. Can any of you leaving out there already tell me if I could get by with just English please? I also speak fluent polish language, so do you know if there is any need for polish speaking workers?
Is there any kids clubs for English kids age 4 and up that meet up for play time, socialising ? And Suzie we will def meet up and hopefully by then you will have a bunch of friends to introduce to me too mate :)
by the way any of you thinking of a wedding in Ibiza and need your hair doing for the occasion please let me know , You can check my portfolio at Poshhairdesign.co.uk by Kinga :)
love to all kings

Flying over for 2 days tonight, can't wait to get on the island and see what's new, hopefully find some accommodation under £1000pcm.

You'll struggle to find anything until after september for that price really apart from small dingy apartments. We got a house for €1100 pcm in Es Canar but that was a miracle and we've got to move out for a week at the end of the month for a holiday let.

This is why I wanted to pop over, so many difference in opinions, yes it's hard to find accom in August I was really visiting to make some contacts as most of the deals are done with word of mouth.

So funny to ask question to some of the workers who live on the island, replys I got we're on the lines of you won't find that house you won't find work. It's to quiet in the winter, so on so on.

I met some great people new places new beaches, back again next month for a holiday can't wait!!!

Hey just a wee message to see how you got on when you went over?
I'm a nail technician so I'll kinda be on the same boat as you when I go lol.
i'm learning Spanish but I'm still very much a beginner! But should be a bit better by April :/

I found loads of info on accommodation no point sorting any thing yet as we're still to sell out house.
Our Spanish is getting better going to try some out on a week Friday got a week booked in the sun.
Are u looking to do nails Mobil or in a salon?
We're looking to do another trip about December time wish there was direct flights,
Any question fire away.

Preferably in a salon if I think I could get by, I rent space in a salon just now and I love it. But if i need to go mobile first until I get little client base built up then I don't mind. Just need to make sure i've got a sat nav so I don't get lost lol.
I keep hearing loads of different information about starting up your own business in Spain but I suppose you just need to go + see for yourself eh?

Well after another week in paradise we have learned so much,
Firstly we love Santa eulalia so will be looking to be around that area, we had visited before many years ago but the town has grown so much, A lot of money has been spent on the area wich has made a big difference.
My wife's trade as a hairdresser is not very well paid the salons offer very cheap prices!! Not sure on quality but a lot cheaper than uk, there is more money in nails!!

Had hopped to visit some schools but as there were on strike left it for a latter trip, but did see the protest in Ibiza town, by luck I was wearing a green top so felt like I fitted in, we had a 1 day strike in the uk and my Facebook page was filled with upset parents complaint on how there going to cope, in Ibiza they get together show there support buy doing something not sit on the sofa on there phone moaning.

Only hit 1 club dc10, so unsafe the amout of people in there, so glad I'm not moving for the clubs, but had to have a look,

So many jelly fish around have they been there all summer???? Cala bassa the only beach with none!!!

The hotel we stayed in was in tarida used to be a quiet mainly Italian occupied hotel, this was our 3rd vist but prob last, to many English drinking the body weight in alcohol and smoking them themselves to a early grave, shame!!

1 last note I flew monarch out of bir in August great flight Friday night no probs very quiet, so thought I'd book again but east mids, we had the worst flight out I've ever had the level of noise Abuse , and alcohol was unreal obviously they serve to make money but why warn a group of lads to be quiet then serve them 4 shots each, muppets, not young lads either in there late 20s, jet 2 back very good.

Just need to sell the house :)

I take my hat off to you lot who are uprooting a whole family and have small kids needing schooling etc. I am seriously thinking about leaving the UK for Ibiza and find just thinking about where to start and all the uncertainties etc very very scary - and I'm single!

Well done and best wishes - will be following your progress keenly :) x
