ibiza rocks 2008

News was posted elsewhere first (as per mcrackins previous post) but hey - whats a news story among friends ;)

Pigeon Detectives confirmed for the opening party on June 17th

Ibiza Rocks line up

headtitle.gif

Acts confirmed so far for the 2008 season include The Pigeon Detectives (June 17), The Wombats (July 1), The Fratellis (July 8 ), We Are Scientists (July 22), Reverend & The Makers (Aug 12) Soulwax Nite Versions / 2ManyDJs (Aug 26) and the mighty Pendulum (Sept 9). And there's more to be announced.

As well as a dazzling live line-up, Ibiza Rocks will welcome an array of cutting edge DJs including long standing resident Zane Lowe plus Rob Da Bank and Steve Aoki, who last year picked up the prestigious 'Set of the Season' trophy at the DJ Awards for his Ibiza Rocks set.

Ibiza Rocks with Sony Ericsson introduced indie to the island in 2005, but now beats, bass, DJs, decks, guitars and bands are not just happily co-existing but rapidly procreating - as the unrivalled innovators of Ibiza's live music scene, the Ibiza Rocks promoters have changed perceptions of Ibiza forever.

It has established itself as a European phenomenon, a fertile breeding ground for new talent, a backdrop for unmissable live performances and the ultimate playground for all gig going, party loving participants.

We're also leading the way in the regeneration of Ibiza with the launch of the Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Fusing music and fashion with fresh ideas, the Ibiza Rocks Hotel launches live with The Enemy on May 31 2008.

With the Hotel launched and the live music lovers landing, we're ready to get the new season started. Here's what we've got.

Tickets for ALL shows go on sale at 11AM on Wednesday 23rd April HERE

banners_01.gif
2007 saw The Pigeon Detectives laying a solid foundation for their future superstardom - the critically acclaimed, platinum selling debut 'Wait For Me', dripping with hits like 'Romantic Type' and 'I Found Out', a string of sold out shows and a steadily swelling army of fans.

In 2008 the Leeds five-piece look set to move decisively to the next level, with their Ibiza Rocks headlining slot a definitive rite of passage as well as a celebration of the release of their second album 'It's An Emergency' - in full flight following its launch on May 12th.

banners_02.gif
Fizzing straight out of Liverpool like an explosion of punk pop sherbert - last year The Wombats injected a much needed sense of humour into an increasingly serious British music scene. What's more they cleaned-up in the process, pile-driving a string of grin-inducing hits into the charts.

This summer the island is preparing itself to be hit by an overload of the trio's enthusiasm - let's dance to Joy Division? Let's dance to The Wombats more like.

banners_03.gif
Fresh from taking home the gong for Best British Breakthrough Act at this year's Brits, The Fratellis show no signs of slowing down this year with a new single - 'Mistress Mabel' - due for release on May 26th, a new album - 'Here We Stand' - out on June 9th and, of course, their latest appearance at Ibiza Rocks on July 8th.

No strangers to the White Island, and with a whole batch of fresh material to unveil, the Glaswegian three-piece are sure to put on a show to remember, leaving smiles as wide as the Balearic beaches and a mosh-pit hotter than midday in San Antonio.

banners_04.gif
All the way from Brooklyn come the fun-loving, troublesome tykes we know and love as We Are Scientists. After making a big splash with the locals last year as they re-enacted Wham's 'Club Tropicana' video at Ibiza's famous Pikes Hotel, the boys are back this summer to headline Ibiza Rocks on on Tuesday 22nd July.

Since we saw them last We Are Scientists have lost none of their trademark cheeky charm - check out the ever present mischievous glint in lead singer Keith Murray's eye. They haven't half got a knack of knocking out killer indie guitar pop too.

banners_05.gif
Once a mentor to a certain Alex Turner, Sheffield's Jon MaClure first hit the mainstream in his own right via the insanely catchy anthems 'Heavyweight Champion of The World' and 'He Said He Loved Me'.

Debut album 'The State of Things' followed, cementing the Reverend's zeitgeist-surfing credentials with a bewitching fusion of rock, hip hop and electronica. This year the Reverend returns to the White Island for a second consecutive year to dispense his urban sermons of love, hope and redemption. Join his congregation and worship with one of Britain's finest lyrical talents.

banners_06.gif
Over the course of their 10 years together Soulwax have gone from a small indie band that no-one had heard of to bonefide worldwide party starting multi media machine.

Guitars? Drums? Punishing beats? Top notch DJ skills? Let's face it - the Soulwax/2ManyDJs Crew have it all and you can worship at their sweat drenched alter with your hands aloft on Tuesday 26 August when Belgium's best boys bring the beat to the Balearics.

banners_07.gif
Pendulum hail from Perth, Australia and over the last few years they've single-handedly stripped down, taken apart and rebuilt drum 'n' bass. Like The Prodigy before them, Pendulum have smashed the boundaries between dance, rock and punk with an explosive mixture of huge beats, buzzsaw guitars and throbbing synths.

With a second album out in May, there's a real buzz surrounding this bunch of renegades. Don't leave the island without witnessing their set at the Ibiza Rocks closing party on Tuesday September 9th. Ladies and gentlemen, Ibiza Rocks 2008 is going out with a bang.

Thanks to Sony Ericsson those who want to join Ibiza Rocks this year will now be able to use their mobile phone as their golden ticket to gain entry to all the fun. By logging on to www.ibizarocks.com and selecting 'mobile-ticket' upon purchase of a ticket to a gig of their choice, music-fans can now opt for paper-free entry. Sony Ericsson will send customers a unique bar-code directly to their mobile that will be scanned at the venue entrance - by passing the hassle of locating mislaid tickets. Once at the gigs, Sony Ericsson will also be giving fans the chance to get exclusive free Ibiza rocks content at the gigs via bluetooth downloads.

See you on the island!

Probably the hottest artist in the UK right now courtesy of world conquering uber hit 'Black & Gold' - you can witness its dancefloor destroying power along with the rest of his eponymous debut under the Balearic sunshine.

Now that the Ibiza Rocks Hotel has been well and truly welcomed into the fold it's time to kick off the 2008 season in earnest.

Next Tuesday June 17th it's the Ibiza Rocks with Sony Ericsson 2008 Opening Party featuring a triple whammy of live music mastery. The Pigeon Detectives headline with support from Ladyhawke and Underground Heroes and DJ's Steve Aoki and Martin Doorly.

let's face it, we must all get tired of reading the same old same old every year. you can only reproduce the same names over and over so many times so when something a bit new and daring to be different (for whatever the motive) comes along of course it's going to get column inches.

HUNGOVER STUNTMEN/UNDERGROUND HEROES/METRONOMY/ONE NIGHT ONLY will be playing tomorrow at ibiza rocks hotel's electric bar, instead of the hippodrome :!:

like last week, doors open at 7pm and concerts finish at 11pm.....

The Return Of The Enemy

They're back.

The Enemy liked the Ibiza Rocks Hotel so much that they extended their stay after opening the place us in May, and now Coventry's finest are returning to the White Island for what's sure to be one hell of an encore on Tuesday, July 15.

The smash-hit debut 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' needs no introduction, the fact that The Enemy speak for a generation in a way no band since The Smiths has been able to can be taken as read and you'll already know all about irresistible anthems like 'Had Enough', 'This Song' and 'You're Not Alone'.

So just check back for tickets and hotel packages.

That's right, next up to hit the white island courtesy of Ibiza Rocks with Sony Ericsson are rabble-rousing dancefloor botherers The Fratellis.

The authors of such squat-in-your-brain mega hits as 'Baby Fratelli' and 'Chelsea Dagger' will be gracing us with their presence on July 8, ably supported by Ladyhawke and our resident DJ Steve Aoki.

Tickets start at a mere 45 euros plus booking fee so get yours now. And stay tuned for news of our HUGE headliner for August 19th. It'll be the peak of the season in more ways than one...

the fratellis

this month's resident band at the ibiza rocks hotel ok tokyo didnt play, even
if their name was on the posters, but were in attendance. of all the bands
announced so far for this summer the fratellis are my favourite..... their
concert was not only, in my opinion, the best one so far but also the
busiest. the people complaining about ibiza being quiet this year
and proclaiming ibiza is dying blablabla blaablaablaa are going
to the wrong places or something..... i havent had so much
fun for ages, and is in part thanks to ibiza rocks ! !
