Had an absolutely amazing time this year (2nd time to the island), completely topped my previous visit to the island 3 years ago (even though that was a great trip too), which was thanks to this board allowing me to be a lot more clued up about where to go and also the opportunity to spend time with people on here there, my new found love of properly disgusting music and the fact that this time I went with two of my closest friends, Leah and Dave.
So here's my (overdue) review of my trip, 24 june - 1st july 2006
Prepared for my trip by visiting the london sales - spent far too much in selfridges, but hey, it was all 30% off right so technically I was saving money!
Saturday: Caught an uneventful easyjet flight to ibiza from stanstead, arriving late on saturday night. As soon as we got to our hotel we met up with a friend called paul who had arrived a few days earlier to visit his girlfriend who was working out here but had been dumped by her pretty much on the day he arrived, and so had been waiting for us to arrive to cheer him up! We didn't actually know him that well as he's more of a friend of a friend of a friend but he turned out to be absolutely excellent company 8) 8)
We were staying at Playa Sol 1 in Figueretas which was a very pleasant surprise, small pool but clean, nice little room with the wondrous delights of airconditioning which Dave and I needed after the last visits sweat fest . Can highly recommend as it only worked out at just over £100 each for the week.
Headed straight into ibiza town after a shower and a change for a very late night meal, randomly stumbled upon La Brasa and decided it looked perfect for a nice meal out. Turns out Paul is a vegan - cue much confusion with the waitress, with him eventually settling on some bread and oil and us all having the paella, which was excellent. Funniest part of the meal was when Paul asked for some balsamic vinegar and got given soy sauce
Off to bed after the meal pretty much when the restaurant kicked us out for some well needed shuteye before space
Sunday:
Up early for a few hours of beach time before space, so we hit playa d'en bossa, napped a little there and then went back to get changed. Down to Bora Bora at about 1 for some drinks and then into space for about 2. We'd managed to sort out guest list for ourselves through a worker friend on the island, but unfortunately that meant that we weren't allowed a pass out which meant we'd miss the footy, and we'd have to stay in space for 16 hours oh well!
Lost myself on the sunset terrace for hours which was excellent, good to meet Robbie G & Beckiboo whom I'd not met before, hello! 8) Bounced around the terrace until quite late, before heading onto the new terrace for a bit of sneak, which I enjoyed but I think I'll need to educate myself a bit more with the boompty boom stuff as I'd not heard it before (poor little baby clubber ). Spent quite a bit of time after this inside the discoteca - caught the whole of Tiefschwarz's set and Ivan Smagghe's who were both excellent, although occasionally a little dull. First time I'd seen them both though, and overall was impressed.
Headed off home just before close to get some sleep before DC10
Monday:
Few hours kip then headed off to Circo Loco at about 3 - tried to convince Robder and the Pilchard to come but they were trying to be good boys for Miss Kitten at cocoon - bet you regret it now Rob!
Circo Loco was absolutely AMAZING - I think quite possibly my most favourite clubbing experience ever - Dave and Leah's too. The place was nicely empty to begin with with good ol slower filth music playing, and it slowly got heavier and darker and more techy - absolutely loved it. Met up with Morbyd and his friends - I need the photos you took there as we didn't have our camera morbs!
All sorts of craziness at circo loco - spent a lot of time trying to eat a lesbian and then showing her my bits and I managed to rip a great big hole in my shorts so probably half the club saw my wang .
Left at about 11 and headed back the hotel to force down a bit of spaghetti and get ready for cocoon with Rob & husband with a few drinks on our balcony.
Arrived at cocoon and luckily the guestlist place I won on that ibiza voice competition was valid! So I got in free 8) but unfortunately Miss kitten was a no show :x 'health reasons' my arse
Still, had a great time there, spent most of it on the terrace, Lucianos closing set there was particularly good. Managed to arrive home with the filthiest feet in the world, mainly due to me having a bit of a 'holey' moment and stumbling about for a while Said our goodbyes to Paul who was leaving us to go home again that evening - his flight was at 9am
Then the day of wrongness with the neighbours back at playa sol & playa d'en bossa started the less said about that the better
Crawled into bed after dinner in a terrible seafood restaurant on the seafront in figueretas on tuesday evening - all of us practically sleeping in the restaurant
Wednesday: Up bright and early to spend a bit of time up in Ibiza town, looked around Dalt Vila and spent time chilling in the cafes, looking at the views and generally trying to get a bit aquainted with the place. Hadn't managed to see all that much of Ibiza town the last time I was in ibiza so that was cool. Headed back home to get changed for la troya. Headed back into ibiza town with Rob for dinner on Calle de Virgines without the pilchard (although of course, it really should have been without rob too little did he know ) and drinks at dome bar.
On to la troya, which was absolutely rammed when we arrived, and stayed like that all night. Enjoyed mucho all the trannies and ridiculously muscular cowboys and even managed to get a swig of baby marcelos moet . La troya wasn't quite what I expected - I can see how it could be a lot better on the amnesia terrace.
Had a great time despite the crowds and left at the close, back home for a quick change of clothes and then back to the afterparty at space after a few beverages on the balcony.
Afterparty was absolutely brilliant - proper terrace music and a really friendly crowd. Stayed until about lunchtime then headed home and slept all afternoon.
Thursday :
Up in the evening and decided to cancel plans for monza and booked a table at pacha instead for dinner and deep dish. Said goodbyes to rob (I think the comedowns were starting already here ) and went for a couple of drinks at a bar near pacha before dinner.
Dinner at pacha was absolutely lovely - it was nice to get a bit dressed up for a change and I can recommend the Tuna Tataki to start - quite possibly one of the yummiest things I've ever eaten 8) . Enjoyed the restaurant a lot except we were inside and the aircon was too cold . Also quite enjoyed the price of wine in there - the house white is only 12 euros so we tried to drink as much as possible before ordering a vodka limon to share later in the club
Pacha was even more beautiful than I remembered it - far less packed this time which was nice. Yousef delivered a pretty poor set imo, didn't even realise it was him playing as it was advertised as a 6 hr set from sharam. Didn't seem to be his usual jacking house style, was much deeper. Think he might have been playing b2b with sharam for a while but wasn't sure. Decided to spend some time on the terrace instead until deep dish properly started. Sharam then came on and played out a good if not really in any direction set. Good crowd though towards the end as the non-clubby types left and we were all screaming at every breakdown . Really enjoyed pacha a lot - nicely full, felt very glamourous, music pretty damn good and crowd not pushy/shovy at all.
Friday: Leah and I decided to carry on at space - unfortuntatly however space never really got more than a trickle of people in there and by the time the sunset terrace opened it was practically empty. Shame as it would have been a nice way to end the holiday.
Back home to sleep on the beach and we then went back to La Brasa in Ibiza town for a final dinner out. All of us started to get very emotional as it finally dawned that it was pretty much the end now
Saturday: Packed and checked out of our room, then hit the beach for a last few hours tanning before the football. Caught the game at a bar in figueretas and realised that it was the back of Ferds head I was looking at! Nice to see you mr, shame we lost! Had to run off and catch a taxi as soon as the penalties were over to the airport so sorry it was a brief bye bye.
Non smoking airport = :x :x :x :x
Overall a fantastic trip, I've caught the ibiza bug good and proper now, I can't believe I'm not going to make DC10 again for a long while (although thoughts of september keep on running through my head ) . Shall be examining finances very carefully for next year - will have to see how other things pan out as I've already got trips planned that might mean I can't make it
Fully expect to see myself in 10 years doing a babs and still going!
Hello to everyone from here I saw out there, was good to see a few familiar faces on the terrace at space and at various other places. Thanks especially to Rob and Alesh who made our trip even more memorable - perfect neighbours indeed!
So that's the end of my first spotlight review, but certainly not the last one I'll write (unless I go and get myself banned again )
