Apparently something similar is quite popular in China - one of my close friends relocated there a few years ago now and on his short visit back earlier this year he told us how in certain places they will drip a small amount of their blood in to a certain alcoholic drink and apparently the rush off of it is very strange, he described it as feeling that was "more manly" than he ever thought was possible!
