worst holiday ever?

We were in ibiza on tue 2nd sep 2003. We decided to splash out and hire a classic army green convertible jeep (it looked just like something from the A-Team). Summer 2003 broke all kinds of meteorological records in Ibiza with record temps and no rain at all since early may. Picture the scene if you will 4 lads in summer clobber cruising about in our expensive convertible, tunes pumping out and on our way to the water park of all places when all of a sudden 4 months of rain fell from the sky in 1 hour, quite amusing you think well yes but that was until we remembered the rental place couldn't give us a roof as it had been damaged on the previous hire. The guy assured us though saying "it never rains anyway". What a Tanker. Find shelter you think,no chance we were on the road just past amnesia and the rain was so heavy that driving had to be abandoned and everyone had pulled over. In summary then we got totally drenched aswell, It does happen occasionally, be prepared.

I was there during that storm. It was a Wednesday and we went to the hippy market at Es Canà. And the return was hell of a rainy drive. The freeway surrounding Ibiza town was a river, many cars stuck and stalled. I thought we were going to be the next ones. Unforgettable day. :p

It's the same every year, you can predict heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms with a certainty of almost 100% in the very last days of August or the very first days of September. As the Spanish like to say, they "break the summer", it's always warm and sunny again after them but by far not as hot as during June to August.

I personally hate the "gota fria" days, there's something so depressing about them and they make you realize that summer is coming to an end  . But, of course, the air is much nicer after them.

I slept soundly through that storm in early Sept. 2003. I got to the White Isle on Saturday and partied through Tuesday, so the rainy day off was appreciated! I was a little surprised that the power was going out intermittently--I thought the hotel was a little more immune to a rainstorm ;)

We sat on our balcony watching that thunder and lightening storm! It was the most amazing lightening ive ever seen!

aren't they great!
Is it the end of aug start of sept that you typically get all the lightening then? I love thunderstorms, but you can guarantee a week of good weather if I flew over to see a storm!

As we were getting back to the hotel from Manumission in the early morning of Tuesday (2th of Sept), we saw the first signs of what had to come the next days: Whilst driving along the road to Ibiza town there was an incredible quantity of lightnings up on the North (looking left). If I'm not wrong the next day was fine though. But on Wednesday the 'gota fría' came to us. And the next days were a little bad (sometimes drizzling or just cloudy and sometimes the sun coming out shyly off the clouds). From the 8th or 9th of September the good weather returned.

Oh great....I'm going 1st September

Never mind, last year I went on holiday to the Dominican Republic and they had an earthquake, it won't be worse than that.

I was in In Ibiza mid september 1997, after a terifying flight looking out the windows at lightning. I assumed once we arrived out would come the sun, Oh no!...About day two in we headed up the west end in san antonio and ended up at a workers party. The first signs that something was up was when we attempted to visit the toilet and was met my a mini lake running down the steps, soon this reached the dance floor and people oblivious to the increasing tide just paddled/waded around. Wondering if there was a plumbing fault we ventured outside and saw that the west end was now a river where people were using lilos as transport! Later that evening in Es Paradis out went the lights..in fact all lights in San Antonio. try finding your way out of a club and back to your hotel when you cant see in front of your face.Crazy yes but pretty memorable!

As was there for the storm last September too! You could see some awesome thunderbolts coming from Formentera.

My bro and I were sitting outside Mambo at about midnight 2 years ago, when a huge lightning storm struck.

The place looked amazing...we just sat out in the rain enjoying it

Great fun :p :p
