Work a season (or longer)

Hello,

I am planning to work a season in Ibiza. But I still have some worries...
I will arrive there 29th of april and stay till end october.
My worries are if I will find a job, because if I don't I will have big problems in paying the rent. Is it really hard to find a job or is it like in Belgium: "If you really want to work, you can" :)
I'm not planning to party every night, I just want to live on the beautiful island and maybe stay forever if it pleases me.
Is it possible to make a living with a rent of about 650 euros a month? Because I allready read all the topics here about working in Ibiza and there was said somewhere that the average monthly wage was between 800 and 1000euros...
Now I am saving for the trip (by car and boat) and the first week(s) without a job, I will take about 2000euros with me for that. Do you think that's doable?
I also have allready mailed with the spanish consulate for info and they mailed me a nice brochure with lots of information (like NIE number and that sort of things), but still I had these few questions... Maybe someone here can give me some advice?
I am a DJ here in Belgium, but I suppose that it's not easy to get employed as a dj in Ibiza, so I probably have to make a living by doing another job?
I am also learning some basic english by some online course.
If someone can give me some advice, please do, I would really appreciate it a lot!

Thanks!

Hi

Although I have not done a season in Ibiza before, I worked in Australia for 9 months. I like you am a dj, and it took me 2 months to get a job. I was lucky that I was in the right place at the right time, and feel that Ibiza will be the same in terms of djing, it really is just your luck. I think 2000 euros will be enough, however the more the merrier, as it is probable that you wont get a job straight away, plus when you are renting a flat, most places will reuire one months rent, plus some sort of a deposit.

In terms of your N.I.E number, I believe you have to go to the local police station in order to get your number, however as half the island are in the same boat, you have to get there early. Once their quoto for the day is filled, the doors are closed, and you simply have to keep returning until you get seen.

Like I say, I have not worked in Ibiza, but my experience in Oz has taught me a thing or 2.

Hope this helps.

Hi GregM,

Thanks a lot for the advice, I really appreciate it a lot. Being a Dj and living in Ibiza would be a perfect fit for me, but another job would also do the trick, as long as I am able to live on the white island :)
About The NIE number, I was allready aware that that wouldn't be arranged in a few hours, but that's the least of my worries for the moment :)
Does someone also know if the wages are still between 800 and 1000 euros a month? It's not that I'm planning to earn big money, but I would love to know if I will be able to make enough money to make a living...
So much to do, so less time :) But one thing I'm sure: I'm leaving 28th april. Been dreaming about moving to the island now for 10 years and I thinks this is the time to make a part of that dream come true. I've had it with Belgium :) Let's go for a new challenge!
So if someone has some more advice for me, please let me know...

Thanks a lot,
Sven

If your heading out with about 2000euro you should be absolutely fine. If your prepared to share a room (as practically all workers do) you'll be paying about 260euro rent per month, and what you'll earn will really depend where you work and what you do. To be honest you probably won't make a living from DJing in your first season, so keep this in mind and do actively look for other work. Remember that a lot of places dont open till end of May/June, so dont be put off if you don't find anything straight away.
