Who went?

Did anyone else leave feeling slightly disappointed with the music, in particular on the new terrace?

I thought Hot Chip were a HUGE letdown. Playing dull as dishwater stuff at peaktime on your Space terrace debut just bemused me!?!?! Dreadful. Hot Steaming Sh1t is what we called them....

Smokin Jo wasn't much better and although Andy Cato was alright, he was VERY predictable. I was flagging by 3am, so missed Ben Watt (the main draw to the lineup IMO), which i'm sure someone will now come on and tell me was awesome!!

Highlight of the day for me was Alfredo in El Salon, he's an absolute don and had the room full & jumping by the end of his set (it was dead at the beginning).
 
In Smokin' Jo's defense, she was probably a bit jetlagged. I'm not sure how that plays on a DJ but I'm sure it has some effect.

I saw her the night before at Club XIII in Moscow and she was playing some great tunes... but she played an early set (until about 3:30) because she had to leave the club and head straight for the airport.
 
I couldn't agree more with you S2H
It did nothing than confirm to me that WeLoveSunday is far too much overrated IMO especially when it comes to the music played in the main terrace.
I went there anticipating a great day at Space to find a lot of nonsense crap being played almost all evening.
Thank God for the Sunset terrace I have to say, may not be so cutting edge and innovative as the other terrace claims to be but when I go out dancing that is exactly what I want to do. DANCE!
Preferably surrounded by happy and smiling faces and not by people staring at their feet and far too grumpy to crack a smile.

Hot Chips were just a lot of weird noises and they only seem to get the crowd going when they played their single, not surprised by this at all.
Andy Cato was good in bits but also very disappointing at the same time
The night was barely saved by Ben Watts but at that point I was quite pissed off and too f*ckd to care anymore!
I know a lot of people will disagree with me but I'm really starting to dislike WLS!
I think it's time djs, promoters and the likes realize that some of us actually like to hear some tunes and are not necessarily too out of their tits to enjoy that rubbish they keep feeding us.
 
wls - been 3 times this yr, last time it was 3am, drunk and stumbeling out of bora bora, find a wls wrist band (which i purposefully looked for cos people sometimes chuck them) stuck it back together with chewing gum and sauntered in without paying the €60 on door price! oh but when the girl at the door whent to snip it off, it just pulled apart FUK! i though, but just casually said Gracias and walked speedily in ! no search as well (had massive bottle of vodka on me)! so this was my best time at space, primarily cos i could carry on drinking and really enjoy the night, i wish the palces in ibiza would stop charging so much for drink, They want to stop drugs, well stop the crap durge music, and get the booze flowing - i dont think you would have many issues with drunken brawls etc... cos its ibiza


anyway yes space is way down my list of clubs to go to in ibiza, it was my fourth and fifth (july and aug-sep) time in ibiza and prob my last.

I think as well your enjoyment of space is down to whether or not uve been before or not, i mem my first time i was aw struk by how amazing it was. Oh and another reason why im not going back (well, unlikely to ) is cos its so security/search/police intensive now, i get annoyed when you get searched, stopped by bouncers, asked if you have any d***s etc... this is the same as the UK! Its just started to feel more like the UK with nice weather and better looking people.
 
It's interesting to hear how many people criticize the attitude and treatment by the bouncers at Space.
I've been going to Space for almost 10 years now and I have to say that I never had any problems, this last time they didn't even bother to search me at all and even smiled when I got in!

I don't have a problem with Space as a club, I think is the best club on the island minus the costs of the beverage of course ;) is WeLove as a promotion that is really starting to piss me off! :twisted:

There are much more better events at Space than that I reckon, one that deserve a mention is Matinee without a doubt, at least they don't pretend to be so "innovative" with their music policy and you can always be guaranteed to have an enjoyable day at Space.

yeah i found the latter we love homelands events in winchester to be crap cos they were trying to do different music to house.

Tuesdays with carl cox is an excellent night,
 
I agree with you about Hot Chip! They were so ****ing dull!

Andy Cato played a storming set in my opinion. He may have been a bit predictable playing tunes like Superstylin', Get Down etc but it certainly got the crowd jumping!

Spent most of the afternoon/early evening on the Sunset Terrace and I thought Jason Bye was outstanding!
 
Ivan Smagghe(Who i don't usually like) and Jeff Mills were top drawer in the Discoteca, Mills especially, defo one of the best performances i've heard from him in recent times.

Just a quick word about my night there.
I thought Smokin Jo was very good actually! I stayed a bit for the Hot Chip DJ set which was not as bad as everybody seems to say IMO but not very coherent. Came back to the hotel then back to Space and on for Smagghe which was brilliant!
Then "the Wizzard" Jeff Mills, cracking set! seriously rocked it and showed what he was capable of! i was behind the DJ booth for a little while and was blown away once again by his skills and rapidity. Using 2MK2, CDJs and a 909. Really impressive. Not a riffle in sight the whole set.
If i'd have to say something about the line up it s that Smagghe/Mills as transition is not the best of choice but he! what can u do with so many big names and different styles!?
Had a brilliant day/night.;)
