Here we go folks.. coming to Ibiza for the first time and on my own ( gulp ! ) - doing what I wanted to do 12 years ago when I was actually into clubbing - ahhh the heady days of Cardiff's 'Hippo Club' !

Anyway, it looks like me and the wife have split up so I've taken the 'bull by the horns' el Matador style and booked myself 11 days in San An, at the 'Hostal Valencia' from Aug 28th - 8th Sep! Flying from Cardiff.

A little anxious about it as I've not been Mr Sociable lately, and never really been away on me tod! - but it looks like there are plenty of people willing to meet up on this forum so us solo's don't have to sit in the corner with a beer - hahah.

So, armed with a bucket of cash i'm on my way for the first time! Looking to chill-out mainly and get my head together, but I'm sure I'll have a few mad ones too!

Where do the 'older' generation go?? I'm 37 although I look 18 ( yeah right! )...want to avoid all the out and out 18 year old chav piss-up venues!

...like trancy stuff ( but not that overly euro synthesised strings guff ), banging ( or should I say 'pumpin'' ) house with latin overtones - apologies for the descriptions - don't know what you lot call it these days - hehe.

think i just about remember the hippo club. If you want to avoid all the out and out 18 yr old venues then im afraid you´ve just dis-counted most of the westend. :)

As for chilling and getting your head together, I spent my last few hours, last night, at Mambo´s with a bottle of san miguel, looking across the bay. Makes you think about stuff...also makes you think about not going home  ...really quite dangerous.

You'll have a massive time. Just take the odd night off mid trip thats all. Im 39 now and went just before my brthday in July. You will always meet people in Clubs its the daytime and pre party that can get a bit daunting which is when its nice to have a few numbers to help hook up with people.

Leave all your crap at the door expect to meet total lunatics and more likely some really very very nice people. You justy have top work at meeting people after a while it comes back to you. Ive been married for years and i know what a hermit it can make you.

Where you stay doesnt matter so long as you travel about. The busses on Ibiza are brilliant and easy unless you want to hire a car. Ive never bothered. I suppose location depends on what you are used to. I like dstaying near Ibiza town its jusy more my thing, but I do lie San Antonio. A happy medium is Playa den Bossa but chose a hotel slightly away from the flight path!! The Notyh and east of teh Island are great but more family, but not without their good spots especially restaurants. If you are going to have a car that woudl be OK. However consistent clubbing and driving are really incompatible.

To avoid disappointmet plan your trip to go to the best parties possible and as many different venues. Some are just compulsory though. Once armed with the basics fill in pre paty vanues BarM etc. That may sound a bit military but Ive known people spend a lot of time messing about over it when they should be chilling.

Also go to some good restaurants Sa Capella KM5.

Spend an afternoon at Ses Salines or other beaches into the eveneig at the beach bars. Tan your ass and take every opportunity to mercilessly rib some undercool flunky at any opportunity.

In case you dont know (and some dont) the night doesnt start until 11 to 1am. Its not worth going into a club until 1 to 2 am, but be prepared to stay until 8. That leaves the late evening for socialising dining whatever. Sleep whe you get back. Dont eat too much. Drink loads of water.

Look after your feet. you'll be bancing your ass off. Dont take new shoes , if you blister them night 1 you'll be crippled 4 days later and thats no fun.

Make sure your hotel room has a fridge for water vodka and ice and beer. Alway keep its stocked as you may be having company when you least expect it.

You lucky lucky bugger.

Some great advice there!!!

Its got me all excited about my holiday now! 4th - 15th Sept!!

I warn you if it's your first trip to Ibiza it definitly won't be your last!! You'll be hooked!

:p

Have a great time and make the most of it!

Good advice!

aye! Sage advice indeed!!... well appreciated.

All I need now are a few contacts who don't mind hooking up with a 37 year old who's wife has just left and his head is a bit fooked! - I'm shure the 'Ibiza Therapy' will sort me out!

Anyways - check my profile out - you'll see I'm ok!

Nice one.

Youre a kid im 39. So you like balearic and decent bars, thats easy. I suggest you stay in igueretas or PDB (which is abit cheaper ) of get a villa if yiu insist on driving about, but if your on your own a hotel or appt is best. Book into Garbi there's a whole crew going for te closings, at 30+, so its going to be great.
