why is house music called house music?

Well there were two clubs in the US where house music originated - the Paradise Garage in NY and the Warehouse in Chicago (trainspotters correct me, might be the other way round).

Hence 'House' and 'US Garage' music, which was pretty similar to begin with.

i recommend everyone in to read the book "last night a dj saved my life" wich is really entertaining and written in a quite funny way and it gives you all the information on how house music (and other genres) and the dj/club-culture once started.
