Where to stay: San antonio or playa de bossa?

I'm looking for the general ibiza experience: nice beaches, variety of clubs, and friendly people. Do you think one location is better than the other? Thanks!

I guess if they are both similar I'd go with the one that is a little cheaper.

PDB and it's not even close!!! SA has Del Mar and it's nice but the piss heads are there. PDB has a more relaxed Vibe, and Space and Bora Bora...

When i ask are you going ..i would make pdb your base camp..it has a more holiday feel about it.How old are you?..San an is fine if you like to be with a younger group of people. All depends really how old you are.Not saying pdb is full off grandads. And its not far from one resort to the other.Hire a car and get out and about.

I love San An and agree with woodruffe it is an age thing. San An can be loud in mid season, but there is always places to chill out and get away from it. I find PDB a bit boring but you'll find this question comes up loads and no one agrees. have two holidays go to both places and then the next time you can make your own mind up....

I stayed in San An my first year and have stayed in PDB since.

Going there to see the sunset last week was actually a nice experience, although my friends were told by loads of people to stay away from San An and the West End I think they were mildly surprised at how it actually isn't that bad, in fact for me it was nice to be somewhere that was a bit busier and had more life and more going on (english people too ;) apart from the chavs of course).

PDB is the place to go for the beach though, it is quiet, and although there are loads of places to eat there is not much variety and alot are the same kinda thing. Also there were definitely more europeans there - not that there is anything wrong with that - just making an observation!

I'm happy I go with the flow.. I don't mind where I stay, I also don't mind getting the bus to the other side of the island - im on holiday im there to chill out not stress about where I have to be :)

PS not many taxis in PBD though and the buses were a bit random this year.. but all of that is luck of the draw really.

I'm going on August 31 for 3 nights.
Now that I'm older (27) I probably won't want to stay up all night so maybe pdb is a slightly better choice.

San Antoni - no comparison. Cafe Del Mar, Mambo, Savannah, Kanya, Coastline, Plastik, The Curry Club, Il Vaticano etc etc etc etc etc

I am 35 and would never stay in PDB. Stay away from the West End and you are fine. PDB is full of German families on holiday and lots of dodgy little bars. No atmosphere at all apart from Space.

agreed. Furthermore, you may find life quieter if you stay in the calo d'es moro area of san antonio. You'll still be within walking distance of the west end, say a ten minute slow stroll...but Mambo, Kanya and Coastline are on your doorstep.

i would stay in the quiter side of san antoni like in the hotel gran sol and then rent a car while you are here to get around.

I stayed in Playa D'en Bossa but did visit San Antonio and I can tell you i thought Playa D'en Bossa was so many times better for a number of reasons:

1. Close proximity to airport (perfect if you enjoy a bit of plane watching)
2. Longest beach on the island. plently of watersports to do and plently of sun lounging area.
3. Huge choice of bars, restaurants and discos (all reasonably prices i thought)
4. No chavs (or very very few)
5. Aguamar water park (perfect way to combat a hangover)
6. Space

Each to their own but 1, 2 and 5 dont really sway me and you would have to convince me about the bars and clubs? Name them please.

As for Chavs, as has been said, the area beside Coastline in San An is the place to stay. A more clued up crowd, with a great atmosphere during the day and night. Coastline during the day beats Es Vive hands down.

To name a few bars we regulary visited:

Marinas, Point, Garbi, Cocos, Big Ben, Murphys, Top 21, Pago Pago, Zanzibar, Bora Bora

Hey, what's all this - can't stay up all night at 27. I am going to Ibiza with my family to celebrate my 58th and I hope to still be dancing as the sun comes up.

I've only been once before but stayed in PDB. I really liked it as it was quite chilled and close to Bora Bora and Space. We visited San An one night but as previous respondents have said, it is a young place - it didn't really appeal to me:D.

I am 35. Coastline during the day has an older crowd and that general area is very cool. I always feel in PDB I could be in any of 100 other Spanish resorts.

PDB every time! I much prefer it to San An but everyone has a different opinion I agree with RobC, have 2 holidays and see which one you prefer yourself

Having always been in either San Anotino or San Antonio bay we stayed in Figuertas this year and loved it - much quicker to get to Space/DC10 and Ibiza Town

I would now go to that side of the island every time

San An really doesn't deserve its bad reputation. One street at nighttime tends to be what all the fuss is about. And its a very small area indeed. I like PDB as Bora Bora and Space are there within close proximity, but for me the positives outweigh the negatives. Its cheap and friendly. August has a higher concentration of neds/chavs going about, but even they are just on holiday having a good time. I don't look down my big nose at people.

PDB reminds me of one of the costa's in spain, sort of like Benalmadena.

San an is kind of different, however, if it wasnt for the sunset strip, kumharas, bar M, orange corner, preparties etc, then it would feel like any other resort. Down side of san an is the beaches, the main one in the town is absolutely ****e this year after hundreds of tons of building sand was used to make it deeper, it kind of resembles a mud flats at the moment.

PDB is close to the action in the town, although i find the town overly packed to visit there every night and much prefer the 'open' feel to san antonio. It has great beaches though, but for me doesnt have the same special feel as san an:D
