You have to see the Sagrada Familia - its the unfinished Cathedral smack bang in the middle of the city.

Also a visit to theme park Port Aventura is a must, The Dragon Khan 8O

Port Aventura is 200 km away from Barcelona

Barcelona is like many large european cities in that it has got the tourist/daytripper/sightseeing thing pretty much nailed. I always think that if its a city you haven't been to before, doing one of the tour buses is a good one to get a glimpse of the top places to see. You can easily get off and visit any particular place of interest and then just get back on the next bus when you're ready.

Main interest areas - Parc Guell, Montjuic (ride the cable car), Camp Nou, Bario Gotico, Plaza Real, Les Rambles, Port Olimpic, Port Vell, Barceloneta, Montserrat, Sagrada Familia and go to the Zoo

Montserrat is not in Barcelona, it's near Manresa, about 60km away from BCN.
The Zoo, after Floquet de Neu die (the albin gorilla) has no much interest, actually it's very decadent and there's a big campaing asking to close it.

Google for MODERNISM+BARCELONA, besides Gaudí main buildings there's lots of little gems all over the city.
