When did you last visit a high st travel agent?

Not stepped inside such a shop since booking Ibiza 2003 on the high street when an offer in the window caught our eye. It used to be a big thing collecting an armful of catalogues to browse for holidays. Never give a second thought to using a shop nowadays.

Does anyone here still use high street travel agents?

Late 90s. All inclusive deal with my then gf to the Dominican Republic.

1997 in fact. Princess Diana died while we were there, so I just googled for the date. 14 years ago. Crikey.

Does stopping in at one to buy a regular plane or train ticket count?
It used to be the only convenient way to get tickets around here when I first moved to Moscow. Now everyone is online, of course.

I have never bought a package tour from a travel agency, although my first trip to Ibiza in 2001 was a package tour sold by a nightclub!

A lot of travel shops must have closed down over the past decade. I wouldn't know definitively where to find a local travel agent shop without looking it up online first. The one we used for booking our honeymoon is now a fish and chip shop covered in garish neon signs :(

Never. By the time I was of an age to go on Holiday without family, Internet Holidays were already popular.

Travel agents and travel companies? Huh. Even if you could find somewhere you wanted to go and they went to, you were stuck with "oh we only do 7 or 14-day holidays, so if you want 10 beggar off....".

It's all so much better now, could you imagine 20 years ago booking three long-weekends to Ibiza and paying for a flight less than a train ticket to London - even including the effing taxes - and a decent room in Ibiza for less than half the cost of a shoe-box in Camden?

local high st travel agent sorted ut Mykonos for us in 2009 & 2010

it was actally cheaper to stay in a beautiful boutique hotel with flights than it would have been to book same hotel & flights online

we met a couple out their who were well peed off when they realised it was cheaper through an agent (same flights etc etc)

When I worked for one (though it was more geared at independent travel).. 18 years ago or thereabouts.

never used one and don't see the point... personally i get more satisfaction knowing that i have taken to time to put my holiday together myself...

at the minute i'm planning a trip in february that will take in barcelona, ibiza and madrid... already worked out the price for 4 flights which is £83!!!!! ticket for nou camp is £90 ( already picked out my exact seat ), ticket for bernabeu is anything from £58 to £125 ( depending on if i want to go for premium or not ), 2 stadium tours which is about £40, ibiza accommodation is £75 for 5 nights, bike rental is £44 for 4 days....

only thing left to search for is barcelona and madrid accommodation..

doing it this way means i can pick out exactly what i want and it feels great!!!!! :D
