Sting once claimed he had tantric sex with his wife for seven hours straight, but a new study found most men are lucky to last seven minutes.
At 7.6 minutes, the Brits were the studs in a stamina study of 500 couples that will be published this week in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Americans came in second with a 7-minute average – 36 seconds behind the Brits – followed by Spaniards, who dented the reputations of Latin lovers by lasting a mere 5.8 minutes.
Dutch men are apparently no treat because they lasted just 5.1 minutes. But pity the poor Turkish women, whose men took care of business in 3.7 minutes flat.
"Sexual events were stopwatch-timed over a four-week period and recorded," said Dr. Marcel Waldinger of Utrecht University in Holland.
The study did not include contestants from two lands of legendary lovemakers — France and Italy. And while there wasn't a "Sixty Minute Man" in the sample, one gent skewed the average upward by lasting 44 minutes. His nationality was not given.
Waldinger's study is part of a wider investigation into premature ejaculation, which experts said afflicts up to 30% of American men. Biotech companies like Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson are already working on a remedy for this sexual problem that's far more common than impotence.
While Waldinger could not explain why the Brits outlasted the Turks, British sex therapist Paula Hall told London's Daily Mail newspaper it could be because English men "are more skilled." Of course, it's also possible the Turks are better at operating stopwatches.
