What is a hob?

Booking a place for the summer and it says there's a hob... I'm guessing it's a european term, so any help? I'm guessing it's like an oven or something of the like?

a hob is the top of a cooker that u place saucpans on etc, it is generaly part of the worktop surface , ie built in place.

ps. CanadaKid - yes its a hotplate on top of the cooker for heating pans etc. (Don't want the powers to be to think that someone comes on here for info and doesn't get it).......

No your all wrong its quite clearly a small round peice of bread that can be cut into two halves. Comes in a variety of crusty and soft.
