Hi everyone! Just a couple silly questions to pose to you wise folks. :D

What ID do I need to get into clubs? Am I supposed to tote my passport around or will my US driver's license do?

and here's a really silly question for the ladies:
Where on earth do you carry your ID and money when you go clubbing? I don't go out much here in the states, but if I do, I usually don't carry any coins (smaller Euros, like 1 and 2E are coins, right?) and can put my license and some cash in my shoe. ;) Do I need to bring some sort of small purse? Kind of annoying, but maybe necessary.

Thanks for the advice! :D

In Ibiza, as in most of Europe, the drinking age is technically 18 and in reality "you look old enough" so you don't need to carry an ID anywhere. Leave your passport in the hotel, lest you lose it or something.

It never ceases to amaze me when, having passed the evil 30 threshold a couple years back, I still get IDed sometimes when I'm back home in the US! My wife, who's a couple years older but looks young, even gets IDed for cigarettes sometimes. They've scared merchants so much that it's just overkill now.

Nope, they have not scared merchants. The merchants are supposed to ID anyone they think is under 35.

No Pajaro you do not need to carry photo ID in a club. However, if you buy stuff at stores, and pay with CCs, I would advise that you have a photo ID.

That's my point. So many laws have been passed basically telling businesses how to enforce the law and threatening them if they make a mistake that they now basically card anyone under 40 who looks like they might even be 35. I've been able to legally drink in the US for 11 years now and I still have to prove it? Do you NOT think that's overkill?

And why is it that many European countries, where the drinking age is 18 and even then poorly enforced, have so many fewer deaths from drunk driving?

This is true. While generally against Visa and M/C guidelines, a lot of shops in Ibiza will ask for an ID when you pay by card.

Yup, It is an overkill.

I am not sure if they have fewer alcohol related deaths (percentage wise). I do not have the data to make the statement. However, in the US it is about 40% of traffic deaths. Quantity wise, European countries will always have lower numbers, as they have a lot fewer cars, lot fewer people driving cars, and a lot fewer people driving cars at high speeds.

Thanks for the info, guys! I'm 30 but I actually get carded often too (I'm sure I'll take it as a compliment when I'm 50, but right now, it's just embarrassing).

Appreciate the help! :D
