Good Monday morning, people. Time for our weekly exercise in memory recovery
Friday - After work, went home and [geek alert] installed a new network hard drive that will allow any of our computers to access the MP3 collection even whilst other computers are turned off [/geek alert]. Around 12ish, headed out to the grand opening of a new nightclub called Opera, put together by one of the top nightclub/promoter groups in town. Beautiful place but crap music policy (an R&B/house mix) so I only stayed an hour before going to another new club called Ten (Shadow) to see Danny Howells!
Turns out I knew the promoter so I texted him to come down from the DJ booth and he took me back up with him. Got to chat with Danny for a while (nice guy!) and helped him with an unfortunate vodka incident. He played an amazing set - more like the Danny of Global Underground Miami than the Danny we saw at Space or here at club Gaudi a couple months back. A curiously small crowd though (maybe 100 people... compared to around 1000 at his Gaudi appearance). After seeing him off to his hotel around 5:30, it was over to club Mix for afterhours until almost 9. The club was totally going off too - lots of craziness and familiar faces all around.
Saturday - Basically rolled out of bed and straight to a friend's afternoon barbecue. Afterwards, down to the river to take in the concert festival on Red Square with tATu, Shakira and Black-Eyed Peas. I'm not a fan of any of them.. (ok, except maybe tATu
) but I wanted to see a good show. Shakira was good and the Peas were really poor but tATu actually probably put in the best performance. Then over to a club called Crisis Genre where a friend's band performed a very good, if somewhat short set of alt-rock (highlights: a cover of the Pixies' "Here Comes Your Man" and an original tune about an orgy
). At around 1:30am, we headed over to the Camel Freemotion festival where James Lavelle was tearing up the place with a great progressive house set. The event was almost like an old-school rave - inconvenient location, industrial zone, warehouse with one side opened up, overmedicated teenagers. The missus thought the crowd was a bit too young and bailed early but I stayed on for Anthony Pappa who just blew my ears off
After that, back to Mix for afters again (though only for a couple hours) which was similary going off... must be something in the water this weekend
Sunday - Spent the afternoon shopping, picking up some things for the house, for the missus, and some cool CDs (Roger Sanchez, Faithless Renaissance, Steve Lawler Viva, Space '06). Chinese food delivery. Ripped CDs and watched Friends DVDs.
Great Weekend!
