So, I suppose half our crew is off on the island (or on their way there) for the closing parties.... but the rest of us can discuss our weekend revelry...
Thursday - Arrived in Almaty on the red-eye flight. Took a nap, went for a walk around town, had one meeting, had a great dinner courtesy of my mother-in-law, then off to meet up with my friends for their pre-wedding drinks.
Friday - Had a short meeting in the morning, then Irina and I met up with my friend James and his entourage to go pick up his bride Elmira from her home (at which time he had to successfully manouver through a series of challenges while the whole neighborhood watched!). From there the caravan headed to a lovely pavilion in the middle of a small lake for the ceremony. That was followed by a couple of hours driving around to some of the city's landmarks for photos, then to the reception which was a lot of fun. Post-wedding drinks and dancing at a club called Fashion Bar. Photos to come...
Saturday - Went out for a nice family lunch at a restaurant serving up traditional Central Asian cuisine. Later in the evening, met up with a bunch of old friends at a brew pub. Some of us then headed to an open air punk/metal/industrial club called Sport and later moved to a nightclub called Da Freak.
Sunday - Big family lunch with the in-laws. Then went to a mountain-top park that overlooks the city for a stroll, some photos and beer. Back home for pizza and football (my in-laws are all Man U fans... they were very gracious in victory
). Left late night/early Monday morning morning for the flight home.
Really enjoyed spending time with Irina's family and being back in Almaty for the first time in 6 years.
GREAT WEEKEND!
