Virus Question?- Its my own fault

Picked up a virus on my windows 7 laptop.

In short, it has made my Windows Product Key appear to be "not genuine"

I have not re-entered the product key as I suspect thats what they (the fraudsters) may want.

Question then -

If I completely re-stall the OS from the disc, which I am prepared to do (despite having to go and get an external HD from the shops later) will this completely cure it?

Cheers P

99.999% sure! Can't see how a virus could stick around on a formatted PC. I've had viruses myself before and if they can't be cleaned, usually going back to an old restore point does the trick.

Yes, you might want to try System Restore before you do a complete re-install.
If you remember when the problems started, you can see if you've got a restore date prior to the incident.

I had a few of those in a row earlier this week.
I just ran chkdsk and then defragged my drive and now everything appears totally fine.

That said, it could be your hard drive crashing
