Hey am going to ibiza to play out at a bar in ibiza (june 16th)
and have just realised i can only take 10k luggage im going for 3 days so will have no room for cds vinyls etc.

i have been told that virtual dj will play all my mp3's etc and if i but the herculies usb mixer i can cue and everything and basilcy just use the lasp top as a storage device for my music !!

virtual dj does have a beat match option but i dont wnat to use this as i can actualy mix myself !!!!

and reccomendation or advice by the bopard dj's ??

The hercules thing is sh1t

The virtualdj thing is awful too.

Sounds nothing like 'real' mixing, although is nice to play with as a toy.

any reccomendations of what to use is there something similar wich is good ?? price isnt really a problem i just want qulity mixing sotware and a mixer i can plug a laptop into ????

then take the laptop with me instead of vinyl ??

You can use programs such as mixmeister to mix live, if you have two soundcards. Good articklickle http://www.i-dj.co.uk/reviews/reviewspage.php?ID=147

Available on all good music piracy platforms, takes about 20 minutes to get the hang of. You can even hook it up to Video Monitors wherever you are djing and play video clips in time with the music. Ok, it probably lacks featres that other perhaps more complex progs have, but its great for mixing. Enjoy! 8)

would rather use it with just 1 sound card and then plug into a usb mixer / souncard where i can then get effects software etc and mix using the mixer is the herculies thing really that bad

??

stantons final scratch is the one for you matey! plays music from your laptop onto time coded vinyl (so you only need the same 2 vinyls all nite) you can take thousands of tunes with you then, its what paul van dyk is using at the moment

Sorry should hav pointed out that Ableton is a fully virtual system and doesnt require the use of decks to provide the time code -although I think you can use Final Scratch without decks if you have some kind of midi control surface.

Just get an outboard sound card connected by usb or firewire so that you can cue up in headphones and run a line to the main mixer, load up your tunes on to the laptop an away you go.....

Might take a while to get to know the program in the same way as using vinyl/CDs but lots of DJs crosing over to this (Sasha etc).

Good luck finding somwhere to play them once this has been accomplished.

Just take your vinyl, Fronty. I took a hard box of seventy out last summer and had no problems at the airport regarding excess baggage.(flying with BA).

You should ask me if you want to know anything about computer DeeJaying. I have used PCDJ on a laptop exclusively for 3 years, I used VTT (Virtual TurnTables) on a desktop for the 3 years prior to that, No CD's and NO Vinyl.

To be honest if you're only going for three days then take your vinyl that you're used to, should not be a problem at the airport. Which airline only allow 10kg? I thought they all allowed at least 20kg + 5kg hand luggage. Going with a new computer system you're not used to could be trouble. Just think, a case of vinyl will take up no more space than a laptop and a controller/mixer, can't be that much difference in the weight either.

Anyway, for computer DeJaying, if you're used to vinyl then there is Final Scratch where you use 2 coded discs on standard turntables that control your mp3's on your laptop.

PCDJ FX is what I use so I'm obviously biased. It does NOT auto beatmatch but will tempo match (more manual hands-on mixing). I don't use any CD's or vinyl just this program. It has it's own controller, although, Behringer have a much cheaper one coming out in May. It also has a scratch pluggin to use with coded discs like Final Scratch. I haven't bothered with this as I don't need it.

BPM Studio is expensive although they have a cutdown version to compete with PCDJ. Also an excellent program.

Tractor is supposed to be good, it also has auto beatmatching, I don't like the interface, more or less just all buttons.

Virtual DJ I personally don't care much for. Don't like auto beatmatching programs, the record case system is awful to use.

Abelton Live, BE WARNED it does NOT play mp3's. You have to convert your mp3's to huge Wave files that take up tons of hard drive space. Most DJ's use this for special effects as an addition to either CD's or vinyl.

Mixmiester is great for making mix CD's, but, wouldn't like to use it 'live'.
