Villa scams? Are these common?

Hey,

I am in the process of booking a villa at the moment and also received the same warning on around the 8th of january.I have alredy paid most of my groups deposit and am also a bit worried.I also think it would be a GREAT idea,as you said, for ibiza spotlight to have some kind of list of all the legitimate villa rental companies so you can enjoy the buildup to your holidays rather than worry all the way through incase you have been a victim of fraud!!!!

our business is selling accommodation so we are hardly likely to promote the competition are we?

we sell through a secure booking system and have had tens of thousands of customers, none of whom (to our knowledge) has been 'scammed'

tbh, i think the scam in this case may be more likely to be from the agent warning you about rogue agents. as in, being very underhand and sly and insinuating that competitors are not to be trusted. I would treat any agent acting as conduit for this information with a very wide berth.

check whether the agents you want to use have accreditations, if they have a phone number ring it to see if its an office full of staff or some guy's mobile whilst he's sat by the pool sipping on a cosmo.

when you decide on agent to use or a villa, ask around (like on here) to see if people have used that one before. from my own experience of booking villas in ibiza, i would say that those attempting to scam are very very very small in number and easily detectable as long as you do your research.

:D ;)
