Villa questions

Hello all, just got back from my 4th visit to Ibiza and already plotting a return next year 8)

anyone out there have experience renting villas? I have a lot of friends interested in joining so thought this would be something cool and new. Couple questions, first what is the best way to get to the clubs if there's a good 7 or 8 people in it? Not like taxis will be passing by all the quiet back roads, and most are far from bus stops. maybe rent a van and a couple scooters, take the van out at night then leave it and go pick it up in the morning via scooter? I assume a taxi will drop you off just about anywhere, so problem should be just getting there at the start of the evening. Second, I saw something about having to arrive on Saturdays during high season? can anyone confirm how strict this is, or will the owners work with you if you want to arrive on a thurs/fri or something? Finally, is a villa a good idea when you have a big group? Sounds like a blast, having your own private pool and stuff, but given the main focus of the trip will be partying/nightlife, will living outside of playa d'en bossa/san an be a bigger pain in the ass than its worth?

any input from past villa renters greatly appreciated!

We done the villa thing last year for the first time (14 of us). It had its highs and lows...obv its spot on having your own pool and stuff but 14 party crew in the one place quickly became like the big brother house! No one would tidy up, peoples drink was getting drunk without askin etc i think our mistake was getting one so big and for so many people, it was impossible to get a nights sleep sometimes with everyone partying right thru the night. I think a smaller villa with 6-8 max would be perfect!

we booked ours with owners direct with no problems :p

Taxis will be a problem. You will not get through on the phone and they like to hang up if you don't speak Spanish. You will have to walk to a main road and get a bus or flag a taxi down if your lucky. Best bet would be car hire and pick up next day. Getting back is no problem although if the villa is up a long bumpy steep track, some taxis will only drop you at the bottom.

We had a small villa bookd from Spotlight , slept only 5 was really nice. I love doing bbq's so that was ideal and hvig own pool was great. Also the feeling of being away from main party towns was really nice , felt more like a 'grown up' holiday. Ive stayed in large houses before and there def is the 'big brother house' syndrome with 10+ people unless you are all good mates and also prepared to do your own things.

I would say 5 - 10 people is best but make sure you have 2 cars at least if theres around 10 and def have more than 2 ppl willing / insured to drive as 1 or 2 ppl will get tired of driving all the time.

Taxi's can be a massive problem to be honest. We were off the main San Josep road and not sure if we ever managed to get a taxi on way out. going back wasnt a problem but make sure you have maps with your villa marked on just in case. Best bet is work out where local bust stop and time table is and use that on way out partying. Obviousy drive to / from beaches.

I would def do a villa holiday again and you will see alot more of the island / beaches as you are forced to drive more which is no bad thing. I may put you off PDB and San An tho!:)

that´s about the worst thing in the world ...
... when you think there´s still a nice cold drink in the fridge ...
... and when you open the door ... 8O :o 8O

... NOTHING ! GONE !!! :spank:  :x :(

I was never hung up on, although I did try to explain in very crap Spanglish where we were exactly and it always worked, even got a few laughs from the other end when trying to speak

dont think they even answered the phone to us on a few occasions!

That is infuriating, especially when stranded on cala d'hort literally miles from civilisation and the only way to go anywhere was on foot on those life threatening roads :D

I did the villa experience for the first time last year and am again this year. I'm a major convert to this way of doing an Ibiza holiday. But for us, the key to making it as affordable as it was amazing was going in a large group (12+).

For flights and villa we all paid around £400 each last year which was almost exactly what I and my friends paid for a week half board at Hotel Pacfic in 2009. Obviously, the extra expense comes in self-catering and getting more taxis if you're a bit further out of town. But I thought that was well worth it. Having your own pool is absolutely f*cking amazing.

With a large group in a villa I think there probably is more potential for friction and tension simply because you're 'living together' more than you would in separate rooms in a hotel. But in the end it all comes down to the quality of your group and how close people are. We didn't have many problems at all last year and what problems we did have were probably caused by those who were 'new' to the core group. I think the villa situation and the extra effort required in terms of cooking and keeping things respectable actually helped us bond throughout the holiday (it might have been a different story with no girls in the group...)
