For those of you who are against the proposed vehicle tracking and road pricing policy please sign the petition on the gov website here:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Although i'm sure it will make absolutely no difference, at least i can say i petitioned against it!

You have to enter your email but as its a gov controlled website you dont have to worry about spam etc. To add insult I used my @westminster.gov.uk email address

Nice one Damo, I just got a mail from a DSI bod about this and was going to post the exact same thing.

Actually I thought i'd do a cut and paste from a post whereby a few examples are to be seen.

HERE IS THE PASTE ( oo matron:p:p:p)

For all those car owners....This is real Sarah Kennedy

>>Once you've given your details (you don't have to give

The idea of tracking every vehicle at all times is sinister and wrong. Road pricing is already here with the high level of taxation on fuel. The more you travel - the more tax you pay.

It will be an unfair tax on those who live apart from families and poorer people who will not be able to afford the high monthly costs.

Please Mr Blair - forget about road pricing and concentrate on improving our roads to reduce congestion.

I signed this today and still not had a confermation email back. :?
The goverment are getting beyond a joke, we are already taxed to death, why can't they just make train travel cheaper and better.

please quit moaning folks

I defend my divine right (as a British citizen) to moan about anything i want (and I often do - usually the weather or 'bloody foreigners') and may even start a petition to that effect.

;)

The road pricing thing is very sinister tho - don't like the idea of being satellite tracked at all. I know people say (as they do with ID cards) that if you're doing nothing wrong / going nowhere you shouldn't, you don't have anything to worry about , but since I do (very occaisionally and usually on a sat nigt) do things that are a little bit wrong, I', a bit concerned)

Oh yeah, and £1.40 a mile (as is being touted)to travel at peak time on major routes - bit steep don't you think??

So it will cost me £840 before petrol to go visit my parents up north.

Hola,
Can anyone explain what's taht vehicle tracking and road pricing policy, please?

It's a UK goverment proposal to fit all cars with tracking units so that they can record how far they've travelled, on what roads and at what time of the day and then charge the driver by the mile.

It will cost more to travel at busy times and on busy roads (i.e. at rush hour)

The idea is

(a) to reduce congestion
(b) to use it as an extra tax on the motorist

Uh!
How scary!
Isn't it?!

Don't you Brits already pay insane excise taxes on petrol? It's basically taxing the same thing all over again!

Petrol consumption more or less corresponds with miles traveled (and is heavier during peak times because you're stuck in traffic!). The tax is even naturally weighted more heavily towards less efficient cars.

I struggle to see the purpose of working in the UK for the middle class. By the time they tax the hell out of you on every turn, you're not living much better off than people on government handouts! (*exaggeration alert*)

What scares me is not the tax, is the fact that they pretend to scan all the cars

That too! They've already got CCTV cameras blanketing the country so you're basically always being filmed. Now, you might have your car tracked as well. Orwell was right!
