Ushuaia (hotel) review

Just a brief review (just flew back home from IBZ yesterday)

Stayed at Ushuaia for 10 days. Just wanted to give it a great review since I have seen some negative things about it, mostly related to last year. I personally loved the hotel. We had two of us staying in the "regular" rooms (forgot what they are termed). The beds were great, nice and soft. Never had any trouble sleeping in them, unlike every other hotel I have stayed in here so far. They had rainhead showers in the bathroom with separate hand showers. Beds were changed every day regardless of what time we vacated the room. Since we were clubbing a lot, the room was only available to them at crazy times, yet they changed the sheets and did the beds every day somehow.

The staff was awesome. I heard last year people getting pissed at security, etc. Our experience was the opposite. The security guys went out of their way to be nice to us, even when we did some crap we weren't supposed to (nothing stupid tho). People at the door, wait-staff, etc. Many cases people made exceptions for us when we asked for it, whether it be rearranging their neatly planned sunbeds, to getting in girls to the parties for us without paying, etc. Not sure about other places, but they had no problem with us bringing back our own alcohol to the hotel room (a no-no in the USA).

The breakfast was awesome, not the crap I have had at other places, and actually stays open until 11:30 so you stand some chance of actually sleeping and eating after a night out.

BAD POINTS- No in-room sound system to play your ipod?? WTF is that? You can't even plug your ipod into your TV. The Wi-Fi only lets ONE person in the room/suite to be logged in at a given time. WTF again ? Not too much of an issue unless you have two people that want to web surf at the same time from different devices. Anyway, these are minor issues.

Anyway, a great place that I will definitely be going back to. Any questions just ask away.

(party reviews, etc. you guys can find in the other forum, this was just the hotel review)

Ive noticed that in a lot of the hotels in the lobby in San An there is a sign that says not to bring alcohol back in the rooms.

It would be really hard to enforce it but I think its there as a condition for the ones who abuse it, which is fair enough.

Drtechno - out of interest what were the alcohol prices like if you purchased something during a day event?

I've never seen this. I've seen signs saying not to bring your own drinks to the pool area but never not to bring them to your own room.

I never really bought any alcohol at Ushuaia since I had a vast supply of my own stuff. Any time we wanted a drink I just went up to our room, hung out/danced on the balcony, and drank. Then went back down when I was done. VERY convenient. Also could use my own (clean) bathroom. I believe the one time I did buy a drink, it was club level pricing (15e vodka redbull I think).

Its pretty funny, we emptied out the minibar bottles and put them on the counter, then filled the minibar with our own beers. In the USA, they would have **** a brick and come after us. Here, they didn't care. Minibar bill was $0.

Oh, one other nice thing, they don't check the minibar until you check out. In a pinch, we drank all the redbull (and took pictures of the cans), then just went to the grocery and bought them to restock the minibar for a fraction of the price. Again, they didn't care.

Things do seem to have improved this year :) - good to hear a detailed account.

:o interesting that .. hotels usually restock the minibar every day to make sure their guests are always fully supplied !

Definitely not like the classic "Paris" or Airport hotel trick of charging you if an item is moved from its position in the minibar even if it's put back unopened (it's even in the T&Cs in some places !!) 8O .. or putting a 200Euro+ actual charge on your credit card and only crediting it back after you've left and the minibar is signed off as full  (*cough* certain hotel at EuroDisney many years ago *cough* ..) !

US hotels are awful over minibars - Ritz Carlton in Boston billed my card over $20 after I already checked out even though I hadn't taken a thing... all very annoying !:evil::evil:

i can't remember the last time i had a hotel say we couldn't bring alcohol back here in the states.... been like 15-20 years i'd guess. having said that, if you show up with a case of beer that's a lot more obvious than having a bottle of liquor in a grocery bag!

:) I can tell you that if they walked into your room at the Las Vegas Wynn, and saw all their stuff warming on the countertop while your store-bought beer was cooling in the minibar, you would be getting a call.

Christ, they even had weight sensors on the food so if you picked it up for more than 2 seconds you got charged. How ridiculous is that, hehe

yeah a lot of hotel have those sensor things now..... annoying you can't put even 1 beer or coke in your fridge without it messing things up with your bill!

that's why i booked suites the last 2 years for EDC with full kitchens at the MGM Signature and Palms Place so we could stock up and eat/drink what we wanted in the room :)

glad you had a good trip

ryan air are a pain in the arse, but i never go anywhere now without my own fridge and microwave, a case or two of magners and the odd pie,

why rough it?

Awesome, great idea ! How were the Palms suites?

Drtechno - you mention that there was no where to play your iPod. I've never stayed in a hotel that does have that facility! Where else in Ibiza has this?!

I really like Palms Place... the rooms are really nice as they were built as condos. some have great views of the strip... you do have to taxi instead of walk to the other casinos but its only a few $ that's no big deal IMO. Unfortunately they don't let you go out on the balconies anymore due to idiots throwing stuff off.
