hi, we are staying in jet apartments next tuesday for 8 days and i would love to know if the room has any kind of security box for a 13" laptop? i can't remember noticing this when booking.... also, i've just read a review on the spotlight website that says in late season they are also quite likely put you in the jet apartments instead which seem to be better ( sea views ) according to the review but once again, do these have a facility in the room for securing a laptop?? i've read reviews of several other hotels about things "going missing" etc etc and want to suss everything out first... any help would be greatly appreciated.. :)

I don't know about Jet, but every hotel/apartment I've stayed in has had a room safe that's just big enough for jewellery, wallets, an SLR sized camera, a phone or two and a PDA or two, but certainly never a laptop.

Unless you hear from someone who knows that Jet definitely have unusually large safes, the best advice I can offer is to buy a Kensington lock (if you don't already have one - they can have a combination or key lock) and hope there is a radiator pipe of some sturdy handle you can pass the cable through. It won't stop a theif who comes armed with suitable cutting tools, but should deter the opportunist thief.

Regards

Just got back from a week in Ibiza, staying at Hostal Valencia. Had the laptop setup on the table in the room the whole time we were there. No problems.

I'm not saying I'm 100% it won't get stolen, but just keep your room door locked all the time. That means the only other people in your room are the cleaners and I doubt they'd steal something as obvious as a laptop.... they'd loose their job pretty quick.

yes but the thing is you have to prove you had a laptop in your room.go without it. lots of places for internet to go to.

it's really only so i can transfer my photos/videos from my camera onto the laptop each day as i take a lot and the memory card will DEFINITELY fill up....

Don Simon is right. If it's just about freeing up some space on memory cards, then buying an extra memory card seems like the right idea.

A lot of the hotels have wireless internet. We brought our laptop to stay in touch with family and make free phone calls back to Canada over the internet.

I have a 4gb card which has held at one time over 700 photos. Its also so easy to have them transferred in many of Ibizas photo shops onto a disc, thus freeing up your card once again. Its really not worth the hassel carting a laptop.
Failing that buy a 8gb card!

i ended up buying a kensington lock before i left which i accidentally locked with an unknown random number whilst trying to reset the original factory setting and i couldn't get it open again so i couldn't use it...:lol:

ended up bringing the laptop anyway and it was fine.... did have my camera stolen from the apartment buy a group of english people we invited in for a few drinks/smokes on wednesday morning so i had to buy another camera in ibiza town for 131 euro..

i'm thinking they would have stolen the laptop as well if it hadn't of been playing the music through speaker at the time...

Shame about the camera, what a way to pay back a bit of hospitality!!
Other than that, sounds like you just about got away with it.
