UNKLE, In all its incarnations, has been one of the few predominately electronic acts to crack the indie rock scene. The brainchild of Mo Wax wunderkind James Lavelle, UNKLE's debut release (with then partner DJ Shadow), Psyence Fiction, made connections between rock, Hip-Hop and electronica and crossed over largely due to collaborations with Beastie Boys' Mike D, Radiohead's Thom Yorke and former Verve front man Richard Ashcroft.
UNKLE's (DJ Shadow now replaced with Richard File) long awaited follow up, Never, Never, Land was released last year in the UK, but despite having some powerhouse collaborations (including QOTSA's Josh Homme and former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown) never made it out in the United States. With the ever expanding Global Underground looking to shed its DJ mix image and having a relationship with James Lavelle already in place, the label picked up Never, Never, Land for The States (due out October 26). In tandem with the release of the standard version of the album, Global Underground will also issue a limited edition version of it on both CD and vinyl. The set will include an extra bonus disc that brings together previous UNKLE original productions, some of which were not available until now, plus remixes by DFA, Sasha, Medway vs Eva, Anagram and more.
UNKLE will also embark on a national tour from 26th October through until 7th November. The live incarnation, also known as UNKLE sounds, will feature James Lavelle and Richard File performing a "decks and effects" multimedia presentation of music and imagery of UNKLE's current and past works.
