Why would you want to do this :? if you can afford to go to Ibiza in the first place then surely you'd just be trying to rip the system off. What a load of bollox

My friend moved to Barcelona a few years ago, and I believe that you have to have worked/lived there for a minimum period before you are allowed to claim any kind of benefits.

Fair enough I say. Bloody benefitr tourists!

You'd probably be best claiming asylum...... then the Guardia Civil take your around the back and kick the **** out of you. Muppet!!!

thanx for the most unhelful tips i have ever come across..yes i have enough money to go to ibiza and stay for 6mths. But the point i was making is if i didnt want to come back and couldn't get a job in ibiza or mainland spain then could i claim unemployment benefit.
Im not trying to "screw" the system im trying to get out of this god damn country (UK) and with comments like the above is it any wonder.
I was under the impression this forum was for likeminded intelligent people to help each other out...i was obviously mistaken!

You sound like a leech to me!

what free ride?? you probably only 19 and worked for 3 years...i have worked in the UK for 15 years ..every penny of my taxes going to the tax man and national health and the unemployed!! ...if i decide to take a break from it then thats my decision if after that i am unable to find work for whatever reason i feel ive paid enough in taxes to keep you and me in unemployment benefit for 5 years so dont start with the " free ride" crap!

i have worked in the UK for 25 years ..every penny going to the tax man

Just because you've paid Taxes in the UK doesnt mean you can sponge of the Spanish Government and Tax payers.

So yes...you are looking for a free ride

and claiming benefit would be a last resort..unlikely the majority of the UK i dont wish to lie, scrounge and expect money for nothing...i would like to work..but if im unable to i would like some advise on how to go about claiming...i think what the majority of you people on here have forgotten about is this is a forum for help and advice if it is needed...not what colour burbury hat u are gonna wear or how many girls u "shagged" last season.

The thing is, when people come to Britain from another country to flee persecution and claim benefit people are up in arms, yet the reverse happens all the time.

Plenty of people on this board have been working for years and paying taxes.

hi there! i am new to the boards and have to say after reading my first post you do seem like a hostile bunch - a lot of stereotypical judgements getting made! i was hoping it would be full of the happy ibiza vibe i am used to - the guy said he can afford to go out there no sweat - maybe it was from a National Isurance point of view!!! peace people 8) and think before you speak please

thats the problem...you are all pigeon-holing people. I for one welcome people fleeing from persecution and genuine asylum seekers..they are not, unlike the media likes to make out, earning thousands of pounds a week and driving BMW.
Please do not make assumptions that i am out to fleece the good people of spain or expect money for nothing.
I am asking for advice should the situation arise and you have all made a conclusion from this which is entirley wrong!

I've just had a look on the British Embassy in Spain website and it says that you can transfer British benefit for a limited period (3 months I think)

To qualify for Spainish benefits you need to have contributed to their own scheme - which looking at another site appears to be a minimum of 1 year out of the last 6.

Hope this helps
