twin bed, single bed? whats the difference?

I've been searching through villa/hotel listings, and I really don't know much about european beds..

I look at a villa and it's like, room for 8(one double, two twin beds, two single)

from where i'm from, twin beds and single beds are the same single person bed.. I'm not getting what a twin bed is?

Twin beds - will be two separate singles in one room. A double is one bed for two in one room.

So...one double (1 bedroom with a double bed for two people to share, 2 twins bedrooms (2 rooms with two single beds in each) and two singles(two separate rooms with a single bed in each) = 8 people.

Now, if Peter has 5 apples and Jane has 3 how apples do they have?
( only joking mate, I'm sure there are plenty of terms standard to you that we'd need explained)

Ahhh....just realised your confusion may be partly because they use 'one twin bed' meaning 'one twin bedroom' which in fact contains two beds!

I get it now, but that wasn't the reason I was confused.

in america, twin beds are considered the 'size' of a single bed. bed sizes here go in this spectrum - twin(being single), double, queen, king, california king.

single and twin beds mean the same thing here

There's more confusion....

An Apt which sleeps 4 will often be 2 twin (single beds) and 1 double (queen/king)....beware of an apt which sleeps 2 though as very often there will be a double bed regardless of the intended sleeping arrangements of the party.

that's ok, since i'm paying a bigger portion of our trip i'm gunna have that double bed to myself =)
