Has anyone ever been?

Looking for accommodation of a decent quality, on the beach and not too far from other bars restaurants.

Any help or recommendations appreciated.

Have been there five years ago and liked it a lot. Whereas Cancun looks like Disneyland, Tulum is nice and cosy with many great stylish boutique hotels on a suberb stretch of beach!

We stayed at 'La Zebra' - directly at the beach mid-to upper-range, very good value for money, enjoyed it a lot. Could be a good fit for you, too. Look around that area, and you will find many other nice places to stay for all types of budget.

BUT: No party there ;)

Tulum is a great place to have a nice relaxed holiday with wife or GF!

airbnb is good for Playa del Carmen and a little of Tulum. Tulum has some really nice resorts too but forget the names.

Cheers folks. At BPM for a week and then doing a week in Tulum to chill out. We did visit for a day this year and also went to Flying Circus for NYE (one of the best parties I have been to) I will check these places out.

Showed the Mrs La Zebra last night and she loves it. Think we will be look to see if we can book this weekend. Thanks mate, great recommendation and looks fantastic.

Sorry to crash the thread but looking at doing a week in Tulum and then possibly onto Holbox Island for another week in Feb. Anyone here done Holbox Island? Any feedback?

I've left it late so struggling a bit to find a decent hotel in Tulum that isn't mega bucks. Any recommendations? Holbox Island looks reasonable in comparison and better quality but will be much quieter (no bad thing).

You're welcome Dirk - good to know that it is still as good as it used to be. I would even envy you for having been there just now - but I'm off to Thailand next week ;)
Cheers

Where you going?

We are staying kid-friendly 6 days in Bangkok (we have a little girl of 20 months and want to keep it as relaxed as possible) and then fly over to Koh Lipe (southern Andaman sea). Very small island, looks quite cool! I have been to quite a few countries already (and used to live in Sao Paulo for 2,5 years) - but it is my first time to Thailand! Have you been?

Went to Koh Lipe a few years back and loved it. One of my favourite islands in Thailand. Make sure you explore the other side of the island , there is a small bar we went to and it was the most chilled place in the world that played Hendrix, the stones etc.

Cool, sounds like we made a good choice. To be honest, we found it quite difficult to find a place which is naturally beautiful, has a decent standard and which at the same time is not yet a mass tourism destination. And we booked quite late.
Well, Thailand... guess it's not a secret anymore :p

Greetings from Bangkok!
Just in case you guys are interested - found a real gem here imo: The Ad Lib Hotel.

They have a gorgeous patio and the hotel as such is a true oasis in bustling Bangkok. Take a look at their website (and no discount for posting this ;)) - looks a bit clean there but has a lot of atmosphere
as you can see here:
