The old soap factory in Manchester, known as Sankeys Soap, is home to the fantastic Tribal Sessions and The Redlight parties and is a truly warm and lovely place. The venue has obviously enjoyed a fair bit of history, as you probably know, but in case you don't here's a little taster of their story so far.
Sankeys Soap - A place of worship for music heads appreciating all forms of electronic music. It has been this way since 1994. Andy Spiro used to host Bugged Out nights there every Friday and Golden parties every Saturday. Forced to close its doors in 1997, the soap factory turned club-cool opened once more with current hosts David Vincent and Sacha Lord-Marchionne in 2000. Over the years Sankeys and the Tribal folk have together housed the world's best DJ's in this 800 capacity establishment. Now the club itself is to be honoured. Amid their summer long 10th anniversary parties the organisers are releasing a mix CD that was recorded live on 24th July by their two fine residents - Krysko and Greg Vickers. Before the big mix Krysko said:
"Mixing it live will be mad, normally you have at least two hours to take a crowd where you want to and we have to do it in half that and record it live."
Greg Vickers shared that emotion, adding:
"Obviously there are some Sankeys classics on there, but I also wanted to make the mix up-to-date with what I'm playing out now and how I see the Sankeys sound on a Friday night, a challenge when only having 70 minutes to play with!"
Finally the venue's hosts tell us:
"Sankeys is such a special place that you cant really sum up what it feels like without experiencing it first hand. While there are loads of records that can be called 'Sankeys records', to produce a Sankeys Soap Album it would have to have some of that magic poured into it, and that magic comes from the whole vibe of a night out at Sankeys... the place and the crowd as well as the music, even David on the mic saying 'make some f***in' noise' and the interaction with the crowd. There is the odd (tiny) DJ mistake (sounds much better though - it makes it more real). Hopefully the fact that this is a live mix will really separate it from what other clubs are offering and show that Sankeys is about more than just a DJ and his records."
Tribal Gathering Presents a 10th Anniversary at Sankeys Soapmixed by Greg Vickers and Krysko, is released on 20th September. Shake those feathers you tribal warriors!
