Travellers Cheques

Think i've asked this before on here but forgot to look for answers, where is the best place to change t.cheques in San An?? And what % do they charge?

Just wandering whether to take t.cheques or just come out with the bank card. The paranoia of the bank card going missing is swaying me towards t.cheques but we were ripped off by our hotel on these last year BIG TIME.

Any advise would be appreciated.

DONT use your bank card! You will end up paying a fortune in commission (unless you are with Nationwide) If you get American Express Travellers Cheques you can cash them for free at Banco Central Hispanic Santander, red signage, just off the square with the fountains in San Antonio. If you buy Euro travellers cheques at Intercash, Post office and some travel agents you won't have to pay comission at this end either so will avoid it altogether!

I'm with Lloyds and have never paid any commission and my boyfriend is with Abbey and has nver paid any commission either. Using a bank card is muc more convenient than messing about with travellers cheques.

I opened a nationwide account just for my holiday and it was the best thing i've done! You can get as little or as much money out as you want and when you want and you don't have to pay any comission at all. When i got back i even had £5.95 left in it! :D

Sorry if I mislead anybody! I thought all banks charged except Nationwide. I'm with HBOS and if I was to use my debit card abroad I would be charged 2.5% which just isn't cricket! I tried to open a nationwide account for the purpose that Rachelh suggests but they wouldn't have me :( I obviously spend too much on goin to Ibiza and don't have enough in the bank!
