Trains on New Years Day

I'm going to Passion in Coalville for New Years Eve and am planing to get a train from Leacister to Newcastle on New Years day to go to the GoodGrief boat party. Will it be easy enough to get a train? Is there anywhere I can check timetables etc? How long will it take? Are trains reliable that time of year?
Any help much appreciated.

I've caught a train on NYD before, got one at 7am. It was horrible.

It's basically like any bank holiday service, as reliable as usual.

Ok, I just checked the train times, there are three going, the three of them have one change and they all take around the same amount of time. How reliable would these be, giving that it is New Years Day, a Sunday and a Bank Holiday weekend?

  Can tell you don't live in England when you even bother to ask how reliable the trains are. They aren't reilable ever, so lord knows what your chances are with the combination you've given above. :?

mate I would double check, because I did that last year and was being told up till November that I could get a train from Manchester to London on Boxing day, then suddenly there were none.

This totaly puts my plan into disarray, I've booked a flight to East Midlands for New Years Eve to go to Passion with one night's accomodation, with the plan of going up to Newcastle on New Year's day and flying home from there on Jan 2nd. But is there much point me booking a flight home from Newcastle and accomodation in Newcastle for New Years night if there's a good chance I might not even make it up there?

As much as I hate coaches have you tried national express? there should be virtually no traffic that day so it miight not be such a bad journey.

I just tried National Express, there's only one bus on New Years Day, it departs at 2pm and doesn't get to Newcastle til 8:50pm, including a 90 minute wait in Leeds! That's nearly 7 hours, so I don't think that will be an option after New Year's eve's antics!

As JJ said, I would check closer to the time, train companies often decide to do maintenace works over Bank Holidays and the few trains they do have running are either completely cancelled or route is changed.

I personally wouldn't trust trains over New Year :?
