tiesto's "elements of life" at privilege

Only ten days after Armin Van Buuren’s memorable 7hr-solo at his own Armada night at Amnesia, it was the other dutch trance hero, TIESTO, who returned to Ibiza for two exclusive dates at Privilege. Having been a regular at the Cream Parties in 2004 and 2005 (when he still had his residency there), it was obvious for us we would check one of this shows out and so we decided for the first one on Saturday August 18.

We knew the doors at Privilege open already at 11pm for these two shows so we got there quite early, at around midnight. When we arrived, there was just low background music and so we took a walk through the club and first spotted the tiesto merchandising stand where they sold the latest volume of the “In Search Of Sunrise” Series. It’s number 6 and yes, it is dedicated to Ibiza. The man seems to be serious about coming back more often to our lovely island after his year off in 2006.

But back to the night. JES started the warm-up for the show at 00:15 with a live performance of some of her songs and also sung “As the rush comes” – first highlight of the night, even before it really had started!
While her performance, we noticed that the tiesto crew had brought and installed a special PA and that only this one was working – the main Privilege PA was turned off! This first seemed strange to us, but when things finally really began at around 1 (and they put their PA to full power), we also noticed quickly that we don’t need to worry about this – it was powerful enough!

The show began with tiesto appearing on a screen. Looked like in a game of Playstation or similar. So, for maybe another 20mins, it was an artificial tiesto dj-ing and tunes like “swimming places”, “carry me away” and “magenta” were dropped.
So when the real tiesto came to the stage (not the main privilege dj booth, he played on the stage at the very end of the room), the main floor was already nicely filled, but not packed yet. The show was divided in the elements (earth – wind – water – fire) and contained amazing screenshows, good lasers, some pyrotechnics – and mostly, of course, tiesto’s own productions. During the first part of the show, he mainly dropped stuff of his elements of life album. By about 3am, privilege was full. When I say full, then I mean all the dancefloors (main and cocoloco, where they had opened the walls on the left) were really busy, but not as packed as with manumission. Great atmosphere and still some room to dance!
The night progressed with more great music, I remember “air for life”, “summerfish”, I remember many of tiesto’s elder productions (traffic et al) and other tracks that are classics by now (like “tears from the moon” for example). Then, apart of JES (who IMO should work a bit on her live appearances, didn’t sound too great live), also Julie Thompson and Christian Burn performed live – and I loved the performance of the latter, singing “in the dark”.

The show went on till 7am and when we left after that, we all agreed it was a top night, even though the tracks were a bit obvious. Everyone loved it, the club was in full swing, tiesto seemed to be in a great mood – what more could you ask for?
