Counting Sasha amongst their fans, Tiefschwarz have built up a solid profile this year set to culminate with the release of a double album on 18th October entitled 'Misch Masch' (via Fine). 'Misch Masch' is a two CD project: the first disc is their first UK mix album, while the second unites most of their remixes of late.
Brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz founded Tiefschwarz back in 1996 along with with production partner Peter Hoff. However, it was their debut album, 'Ral 9005', which perhaps first brought the talented boys from Berlin to a wider audience in 2002. A large remix this year sealed their success with Spektrum's 'Kinda New', and Tiefschwarz have continued to build and develop their own distinctive style.
CD1 of their forthcoming release features artists such as Mylo, Kiki, Tiga, Derrick May and Mathew Jonson. CD2, meanwhile, is a collection of acclaimed remixes, with the exception of their Kelis and Rapture mixes, and many are available for the first time here on CD. The compilation includes their own versions of Spektrum's 'Kinda New' (which tasted Ibizan success this summer), DJ Hell's 'Listen To The Hiss' and Phonique's 'The Red Dress'.
Ali says, "When you are making a compilation it's more sensitive than a set in a club. You have more time to think about your selection. We have been playing all the tracks on 'Misch Masch' in our sets and we wanted to use tracks that sat between the lines. We didn't want to just put a lot of acid or electro on there because that is hot right now. We wanted to make a mix that would stand the test of time. 'Misch Masch' is about good music, not just a selection of the hottest tunes right now. So there are a lot of new bits in there with some classics like Derrick May's 'The Dance' thrown in, tracks that have inspired us... The remixes we've done we are really proud of and were keen to put them on an album. It signs off what has been two really successful years for us. The mixes have allowed us to DJ all over the world, which has been fantastic. T In The Park, Sonar and Benicassim festivals are a few highlights but now it's time to end that phase and get on with our artist album".
