Q1. I know it has probably been asked before on here but you see a number of dead trees across the island painted various colours. I understand the hippies paint them but is there any significanance to this..other the colourful decoration?

Q2 What do the rectangular plaques pinned on various trees that a painted black and white (diagonally split) mean?

Q3. By whom and why are plastic cups hung up in some of the trees, is it to catch insects?

the b&w signs signify a private game reserve 'coto de caza privado'

the plastic cups in the trees make them easier to see at night. too many ibbies were missing them when driving home drunk.

no, i made that up. the cups are to combat a tree pest called processionaria.

although your first answer seems entirely feasible:lol:

Thanks for your replies.

I find the plastic cups hung up in the trees somewhat unsightly. You would think there would be an easier method to kill these pests.

I wonder if somebody is paid to hang them up in the trees or do they get an amount for each insect trapped!

I have a question as well.

what are the shop fronts that seem to have some type of video/dvd vending machines and how do they work?

they are dvd vending machines - you put your membership card in and choose your dvd. they come in very handy in the middle of the night or on rainy sundays when the shop is closed.
