Thomas cook asking for money

The hotel you are in wants you to pay extra. What should you do?

Hotel groups are generally paid by the tour companies 60 to 90 days after the travellers have already taken their holidays. Some hotels have been asking holidaymakers either to leave or pay extra to remain in the hotel.

The CAA said holidaymakers experiencing difficulties with their Atol-protected hotel – including if the hotel is requesting payment – should contact its call centre on +44 1753 330 330. The CAA said it may take a few days to secure these arrangements. Do not make a extra payment to your hotel unless instructed otherwise by the CAA team, it said on Monday

Yes seen that..Then now jet2 have 1000s of seats going on sale..virgin pumping adverts on all channels...And sky high prices for flights on other companies...

Hays Travel buying all 550 Thomas Cook shops, surprised at that but then again sales weren't Thomas Cook's issue it was the debt they couldn't escape from.

Interested to see what flights and hotels get snapped up next. Hopefully the Ibiza ones by a group of rich old ravers who want good prices for all ;)

I am surprised anyone would want to buy their shops - that way of booking a holiday has died

People don't want to sit and trawl through a book that say they have to go away for 1 or 2 weeks. People want flexibility and holidays targeted on their needs with the use of data.

I can see the appeal for specialist shops, we had quite a complex trip to Australia with multiple stops and many hotels and our independent travel agent were brilliant.

But yeh, been a good 15-20 years since I've booked a standard package holiday in a branch. Can only think Hays are seeing it as a quick and cheap way to expand and get experienced staff, surely some branches will be closed for good eventually.

In these scenarios, the auditors will always offer a deal to take the full portfolio. Probably would've been cheaper for Hays to snap up all 550 then it would have 549 or even 150. I would think @Digital2013 is right - the vast majority will go unused and be sold off as individual units.

If Hays didn't, potentially a competitor might have.

Holidays I can't imagine booking through a travel agent anymore. But as you say, complex trips like travelling for long period in far flung places with multiple stops and entry/exit points, not to mention visas - I'll definitely continue to use an agent. Administrative nightmare otherwise. Far better somebody else carries that buck
