Here goes a story which words cannot fully justify...
Arrived in Ibiza in the middle of the night, excited but tired from a good few days in London catching up with old friends and not resting enough! Relaxed and got into the swing of things then met up with fellow spotlighter Hypersky, and thereafter, Spencer and his friend Nathan (Aussies). Cream was on the cards so we had pre-party drinks at Spencer's apartment and headed off quite early. Arrived to an almost empty Amnesia but it filled up fast and before we knew it we were standing under the ice-cannon on the main floor screeching and jumping up and down as you do. Met our very own Stivi too! Ibiza has a very funny way of making sure everything works out.... I bumped into Greek friends I'd met out there last year and after a very exciting reunion and a couple of drinks, we made our way home for a little carry-on. Good night out but nothing overly memorable music wise. Must have been all the Jagermeister shots I was chugging back or the fact that I'm getting older!
Oh god this is where it starts getting blurry!! The next few days were rammed with visits to Sa Trinxa for lovely champagne sangria and suntans. We lunched at the restaurant there which was good, swam, tapped our feet on the soft sand to the perfect music oozing out onto the beach, took stupid videos of stupid things and basically just kicked back and took it all in. Had a very nice meal at Sa Capella one evening with the Aussie contingent and the Greeks, did a couple of Bora Bora sessions, lay by the pool, went shopping and for some reason, kept having to visit the ATM! Also went to Cafe Mambo one evening for a meal and sunset with Hypersky and had a little discussion about music and where it's going.
Sunday came along quickly and before we knew it we were off to We Love... after a few pre-party drinks at the Aussie HQ. Arrived at around 5, which was nice. I like watching people walk in! Had a jam on the sunset terrace and yes, I still love Jonathan Ulysses!!! It got dark, we danced and chatted to lots of different people and at about midnight we decided to use our passouts for a refresh and a break. Back to the apartment for a drink, shower and freshen up, then back to Space where we had left Spencer who tends to be on his own little mission most of the time! Funny little state he gets himself into Didn't really get back into it from then onwards though so we left at about 5am. I was determined not to miss Danny Howells but that failed miserably!! Interesting little stroll back home to say the least!
And the days roll on. Next thing the boys were leaving. Sad times all round and I hear they had a nightmare journey back to Aus with a 20 hour delay in Singapore! The Greeks also left so suddenly I was totally alone. Not phased, I armoured up for Armada, arrived totally alone at a club for the first time ever (wouldn't really recommend this as a girl on her own) but survived quite a few hours talking to randoms and having a bit of a dance. Armin did his usual, but I wasn't really into it that night - it's a lot more fun partying with friends - especially friends you have a bit of a history with. You know that moment when you want to turn to your mate and say "Holy crap... remember this tune?". None of that for me so I left sometime after 4am.
The next few days were some of the best times I've had on that island. Stivi kindly let me into his world for a few days and I got to see some incredible places, climb some beautiful hills, drink amazing wine and eat some spectacular food, not to mention meet some really super people - crazy people! Racing around chasing upsidedown sunsets was exhilarating and fun and getting changed for dinner in the carpark at Yemanja was hilarious, especially after so much wine!! Breathtaking views, mooning boats, our little seagull friend, aaaaeeeeiiiiiiooooouuuuuuu echoing in the tower, the smell of old stone, smiles all around - aahhhhh - just simply perfect. Moments I'll treasure forever.
The days never stopped and before I knew it, it was Friday. Catherine and Tomo had arrived from the UK, so we met at TOMA for delicious tapas, caught up on all the news and then they went off to Wonderland. I was holding out for the big finale weekend so opted out of that one. Lots to do on the island besides clubbing anyway!
Saturday saw me back at Bora Bora where I met a Swiss couple who were also going to People from Ibiza that night. Made plans and we met in the car park at Amnesia early on, and spent most of the night on the terrace dancing and laughing and basically having a really good time. Oh and did I mention laughing? A quick trip into the DJ box saw us back with some blow-up musical instruments which we blew and strummed and sucked and smacked eachother with - complete hooligans. Stupid fun times!! Great night, great crowd. Would recommend it for sure!
Sunday was Space again with Catherine and Tomo this time. I wasn't into it as much as i had been the previous week and nor were they. I guess I was just really tired and the "little incident" didn't help much, so we decided to call it a night at Space at about midnight. Quick stop at the hotel to change, then on to Es Vive minus Catherine. What a great night!!!!! I love this place! Chatted, drank, chatted some more, broke into a dance every now and then, and before we knew it 8am had rolled along and we were being ushered out very gently into the brightest sunshine Ibiza has to offer! Whoa!! Not cool. That walk back to the hotel felt like it took hours (which i think it actually did) but I was in too much of a state to actually lift my arm and get a cab so one foot in front of the other it was. Plod plod plod... all the way home! The walk of shame. Heels snug under my arm, newly aquired sunglasses firmly on face, no eye contact with anybody, the paranoia setting in whenever a police car went past. Hahahaha. Superb stuff!! Sleep was a thing of a few days ago, and I wasn't giving in now. Last day to soak up some sun so out i went to chill by the pool. Ahhh a swim is the perfect cure and I felt ok by the time evening arrived.
Monday night was the biggie in the form of Cocoon. Last night on the island; this better be good. I was quite tired and I hate techno. And I hate minimal. Oh dear!!!! In we go and ...............................................
whoooosh............................................. . Instant Satisfaction! What a night!
Mish Mash MAYHEM of the highest order. The gods of clubbing and music and people all came together in just the right amounts to make this the best night I've had in my 13 years of clubbing history. And that is not one word of a lie. I don't really know how or why, all I know is that it happened. Even better than the first time. You remember the first time??
I would go back just for this party again. Of course, I wouldn't expect anything to top my first Cocoon, but it's changed my views on a few things in life including music. Sure, you're thinking - bring out the white fluffy clouds and the violins, but really... WHAT a night!
Montana made for a nice little intimate after-party but I was feeling sad already and had to make a few trips to the toilets to wipe away the tears as I knew it was all over, but no better way to end my holiday than on a high note like this. Back to the hotel, pack up, shower and hit the airport for the start of my epic journey home. Don't feel sorry for the Aussies..... mine takes the cake. I left Ibiza on a Tuesday night and arrived home on Sunday. That said, I did have a one day stopover in Johannesburg to do grocery shopping, so I guess 4 days to get home isn't that bad.
Weird being back. I'm over the worst with regards to "the post Ibiza blues" and will now rest quietly in the knowledge that I already knew I loved Ibiza before but now I know it loves me too.
