Well, what a night !
Firslty .. if anyone is scared of heights, then make sure you know where you're going to be and don't go in the top tiers as we did ... GULP ! However, this afforded us the most super view of the whole arena and entitled us to take in the venue and atmosphere in an instant ! And what an atmosphere it was !!!
Prince, the little and lovely one, opened his first set of the 21 nights, with Purple Rain, and once again showed how well he his guitar can speak !
He superbly span us a Greatest Hits show (with a few sneaky new ones put in to keep us on our toes) ..
After his third encore, everyone started to leave ... in fact, probably a third of the arena had cleared when all of a sudden there was a loud cheer and the little purple princeybobs appeared with six minders - he walked through the auditorium and stopped to gather his acoustic guitar before popping on to give us a treat ... starting with Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret, oOmetimes It Snows In April and did a couple of covers in the only way that the little poppet can. (Come Together by the Beatles and Gnarls Barkley's Crazy) ...
I'm a bit blurred with all the songs but no doubt those amongst us who were there, in particular my other half, will fill in alllll the blanks.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
After the show, we queued for the after party, for which we had tickets ... a bloody long queue I can tell you, especially when you've disobeyed Doctors orders and danced - well, who couldn't !!!
The Indigo is a gorgeous, sexy little venue with a polished floor, kept sparkly clean by the cleaning staff as they wandered round with their little wipes to clean up spills.
After a bit of a tiring couple of hours listening to some rather good music - but don't mention the mixing, the purple one's band honoured us with their presence on stage ... showing just what a fantastic band they were, they played .. and played ... loads of drity funk, with a snap happy bassist and the tightest of rhythms .. mmm mmmmm ... tis making my mouth water to write this.
And yes, the not so purple one (he'd changed into a rather sexy red suit with black shirt .. and yes ladies - and gents - he looked HOT and Saffy got the horn for a bit and had to drink numerous glasses of water to cool off)
He blasted his way, rock stylee into a song, which took many hard core Prince fans a good few minutes to figure out what it was - " U Need Another Lover " .. **** me, that man can play his guitar. I don't think I have EVER in all my (21 now) concerts, heard him make that guitar speak the way he did last night .. he was fantastic !
Awarding his band the acclaim they so deserved, he stood back from the aftershow a bit and let them lead - well deserved too - it was hard to believe Maceo was born in 1943 - he can give me some energy.
All in all, a blinder .. a wonderful wonderful memory, of which I'm thankful.
I look forward to Saturday 11th and will probably be wetting my pants in excitement next week.
As our daughter Hollie said to me, "I've grown up with Prince and I've never seen him ... on the 11th I will!" Indeed you will Hollie, indeed you will.
Saff xx
