Seems a lot of fuss about hotels having to ask for more information (not much more TBH). Although not quite sure why the authorities need to "know your sex". Does your pluming make you more of a terrorist threat??

If tourists think that's bad...just wait until the ETIAS finally comes in.

It's always baffling when some hotels make you hand write stuff you've already provided on your booking or on passport anyway. Some chains are stuck in the year 2000 that they must get your email address so they can send you marketing spam, I bet hardly any business leads are generated from these emails now the world has moved on.

I see Italy is planning to ban contact less Airbnb checkin. I.e make the owner have to go and physically give you the keys and not use lock boxes. Apparently this is to stop criminals hiding in the properties...but I'm not convinced the Airbnb owner is going to turn into a detective at checkin :) also surely the criminal gang would just get one person to get the keys while the mob arrives later, but what do I know... :)

If I have to then it's either unreadable or I use my third account which is almost never read and simply contains all that marketing gumph that I can't be bothered to unsubscribe to. Oh, and I give them my old mobile number too. Still valid, but they can ring/text/spam to their heart's content.

If you've ever watched any of those Australian border force programs, they don't ask for the bank details but more proof of funds, you can afford your holiday. I'd assume it would be more that than ACC number and sort code.

Non EU citizens have always been required to have proof of both funds and accommodation when entering Spain. Which means since brexit, brits need this too, but are very rarely asked for it. Also if you are staying in a person's apartment, you need an official letter of invitation from them as proof.

Does the fact that your room and flights have been pre-paid count? Other than that the only "funds" I carry with me are my pre-loaded travelcard, plus my regular credit and debit cards. Very little actual cash, so to prove I have "sufficient funds" they would have to trawl through my personal premium bank accounts at J.P. Morgan.
