The Launch of Upbeat Music – Promotions / Label / Online Store

Tuesday 1st July sees the launch of a new and unique concept named Upbeat Music which will merge together three key areas of the traditional dance music business, each of which have themselves undergone dramatic change over the past ten years. The internet and peer-to-peer technologies have opened up a myriad of new ways for new artists to release top quality music, although the problem still remains of how their listeners actually find them and their music in an ever expanding and monopolised marketplace which is still dominated by big names.

The ever-shortening gap between the artist and the public has now called into question the very existence of the conventional gateways to releasing music and that is where Upbeat Music offers new services to artists; by moving to reflect the changing industry. The long-term concept behind Upbeat Music is to revolutionise the ways in which new music travels from the mind of the producer into the hands of the public. Ultimately, Upbeat Music involves the three-way parallel operation of a promotions company, a record label and an online music store for everything musical that is house, trance and tech.

Whilst a number of existing outlets already represent similar ways for artists to promote or sell their music on their own terms, Upbeat Music is the first to offer the key critical elements of the end-to-end process to artists in a single package, providing clarity and transparency whilst streamlining the entire journey.

Promotions
This is where the music starts its journey. Based on a promotional agreement, your tracks will be added to the promotional schedule and sent to our DJ promo pool. This will present an open door to talented emerging producers who are all too often overlooked by labels in favour of more established artists. In return for promoting a track, the condition is that if your track gathers support as a result of our promotions, then Upbeat Music has the right of first refusal as to whether to sign it. If your track is not supported, artists can still sell it independently and exclusively through our own online store. For too long, whether a track is ‘signed’ or not has been used as a measure of its quality when in reality, traditional labels are constrained for a great number of reasons as to what they can and can’t release. The power to decide what to release is now given to the artists rather than the record label and this move of the decision boundaries will help encourage emerging artists to use Upbeat Music as a way to get their music to the world.

The Label
This is what happens to promoted tracks music which gain support. Your track is signed to the Upbeat Music record label, becomes eligible for remixes and it is then re-promoted to the DJ promo pool as a full release package. All tracks which are signed to the Upbeat Music label are then sold both through our own online record store and also through other online stores in multiple formats. You also can get your hands on our music by joining the promo service which means that you will receive tracks at the same time as they are sent out to the DJ promo pool. This will give you access to every promotion which we handle, every track we sign and every remix which accompanies it for a significant saving.

The Store
As well as using a number of leading online dance music outlets for selling Upbeat Music’s signed releases, this is where all the music goes on sale. We offer some of the most favourable terms for independent artist sales with no one-off payments, no setup fees and no bandwidth charges. Our online store will be made up of tracks signed to Upbeat Music, promoted tracks which are being sold independently, and also tracks from other affiliated labels that are using the Upbeat Music online store as an additional retail outlet.

Over the past five years, the music industry has undergone radical change from a physical to a digital distribution model and Upbeat Music heralds a revolution in the way that music reaches the masses. In keeping with the modern dance music production scene where software costs are falling and the complexity of production mediums is increasing, the more producers who can contribute to the scene, the more competition there will be and thus the better the quality of the work.

Check out our brand new site www.upbeat-music.com for the latest news as to what’s lined up in the promotions schedule, the label and the online store areas. There you can view the full press release and to see what we will be delivering in the future and don’t forget to subscribe to email updates to keep your finger on the pulse. We remain dedicated to supporting the long-term future of the electronic dance music scene by providing an unbiased outlet for new dance music artists and helping make quality the only barrier to the success of both the music and the artist.

In addition we will be launching a brand new radio show ‘Upbeat Music’ on the web’s leading internet station ETN FM. The first broadcast will be next Tuesday 1st July 2008 with additional weekly shows every Tuesday thereafter from 1500 to 1700 (GMT) thereafter. Additional broadcasts will be via syndicate on Liquid FM and 1Mix Radio.

i love it when people waffle on in marketing speak - i'm only surprised you didnt use the word paradigm

its just another online store ;)

so essentially if a track doesnt get picked up by the label it will be sold in the store

if it does get picked up then it will be sold in the store

We offer some of the most favourable terms for independent artist sales with no one-off payments, no setup fees and no bandwidth charges.

i wasnt aware online stores charged one off payments, set up fees or bandwidth charges to sell the artists music ?

you're also going to want to make your website a hell of a lot more user friendly - i gave up waiting for the flash to load

You need to get your copy proof read. This is tedious reading.
