Super Tabloid I think they call it? It's quite unique.
They spent millions on developing it, had to get in loads of new printing equipment in London & Manchester, they even had to sit & watch their circulation take a hammering at the expense of the Times & Independent, but they are confident that they will claw it back in next 12mths!!

I like it by the way ;)

I'm not keen on it either - I wanted to like it, but it's an awkward size and difficult to manage standing up on the tube. Agree that G2 is unnecessarily teeny.

I went back to the tabloid Independent this morning. I'll try the Guardian again on Saturday - won't give up on it yet.

I've just been reading Guardian online lately....i'll try the new Berliner size paper offering but if like Russ says the paper (it's printed on) is thin and low quality i won't bother again....i hate poor quality newsprint, it feels nasty.

it'll be interesting to see if they make any money out of it. Not tried it yet, don't particularly like the new logo, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Colour on every page though! oooooooh 8) 8)

they have took abit of a pounding developing it, and have dropped in circulation, but they reckon it will have paid for itself in the next 12 mths and the circulation will go back up.

Interesting one this - I personally like it, especially the weekend Review supplement. I thought G2 looked silly and titchy last monday, but it's grown on me a bit since...

is it cool? - Yes.
is it gonna get their circulation up past the 400,000 mark again long term? - Hmmm, remains to be seen. They put on 40% on the first day, but will that be sustainable? I'd say the best they can hope for is getting some of the indy dissenters back on board, but with a product which is still less than commuter friendly, is that likely?
They may have taken on an ex-times journo, but that doesn't mean the your average Torygraph reader is gonna suddenly see the light.

Interesting times in national press....

Any Londoners seen CityAM by the way? What are your thoughts (if any) on that?

they paid 80 million for those new presses tho... 8O

at a time when ad revenues are soft across the board that's a pretty big gamble.

The Guardian's Weekend mag on Saturday was VERY good. :D

I've seen people handing out City AM, but it's when I'm on my way out of the tube, so haven't picked one up. What's it like?

Completely unrelated to quality of content, but the new design reminds me too much of 'Today', which was pants even for a tabloid. Must be all the colour.

yeah but the "trust" aint daft are they, bet it ate into everyones profit shate this July though??

city am's problem seems to be that they hand them out when people are LEAVING the tube network.

metro works coz people read it ON the tube (and leave them there)

peeps who need financial info will get it earlier from the ft or from reuters etc once they get to work.

'theguardian' on sat was better but i'm still not convinced the new format is a winner. i've gone back to the indy.
