The chocolate phone

Just a warning to anyone thinking of getting a new phone or upgrade - do not get an LG Chocolate, its the biggest pile of poop going. Looks great but does F**k all, serves me right for wanting a phone that "looked good".

So not worth the hype about them when they first came out.

I only had it a few months and it dies all the time and battery life is very poor.

I am now stuck with it for at least a year - argh!!!!

Emma, you have obviously missed the LG Chocolate bashing that went on on here before. Ebay it while its still shiny and get yourself a real phone. I've tried using it and its totally hopeless. Plus, it'll be all scratched to bits soon enough anyway.

Oh really? I must have missed that! I

I could prob get a good amount for it on Ebay as its still in good condition and I have all the packing etc. Just means I have to get a new one

Should never have traded in my trusty old Sony Ericsson

I've got one and if you only want to phone and text people (and have a good looking thing in your hand) its ideal. Yeah the battery life isn't great but it doesn't take much to charge it over night.......i just wish people would read the spec of phones and any reviews which go with them before they start moaning about it   ;) !

Very true, to be honest, I should have just stuck with what I knew, the Sony Ericsson mine lasted me so well, so really I should have got the new one that is out, but I thought it was quite big at the time. I liked the chocolate as its nice and small.

My own fault, plus I had to have a phone that day, if I wasnt so impatient and waited then I could have got something better. I did want the Nokia 6111 but they never had it available so as I always did like the choc thought I go for that.

The only annoying thing about the battery is if its pretty low and then you send a few texts or something it completely dies. Yeah you can charge it over night but not if your stuck in the car on your way home when you really need to speak to people. Not so handy then.

I don't know if you might know this already but there are many scams related to mobile phone buying/selling on Ebay.
If you go to Ebay forums and look for advice on how to sell a mobile phone, it'll give you all the details, but here's some basic advice in case you've not heard of these things...

Don't put the phone as a "Buy it now" but only as Auction. This is because if there's a buy-now option, the scammers jump in and buy it straight away. With Auction, they don't have so much patience (apparently) and also you can monitor the auction and cancel any unsuitable bids just before closing.

Block any buyers with negative rating score or, in my personal opinion, for this particular transaction I'd say block anyone with rating of less than +50.

DO NOT SELL YOUR PHONE to anyone from Nigeria, other parts of Africa or Eastern Europe. I know this sounds like terrible, terrible discrimination and I offer huge apologies to anyone from those countries who might be offended by this (I'm Serbian myself so I know how you must feel). It's just that these are the places where the scams seem to originate from.

The scam looks something like this. You put the phone up for sale, (especially if buy-now), then you get an email from a person telling you that their boyfriend/sister/dad lives in Nigeria or any of those other places, and asking you to post the phone there urgently because it's a delayed birthday present or whatever. They usually say they're happy to pay over the odds for postage (or even the phone itself), and either say they will transfer money to you straight away or that they've already done so. You may even have an email from PayPal or similar company saying the money's been transferred (and often showing a much bigger amount than what the price actually was). THESE ARE FAKE EMAILS please do not trust them. If you send the phone, you will never ever see your money.

It's one of the most common scams on Ebay and personally I'd say sell only to UK and to a reputable buyer with high score and good comments. If unsure, ask for their tel number so you could have a chat. A genuine buyer won't mind.

My boyfriend and I have read about this and didn't really know whether to believe it, put a phone up for sale with a buy-now option, within couple of hours we had 5 emails from different people from Nigeria all claiming that they've bought it and with all various emails confirming payment !!!! Those emails from Paypal look completely genuine but don't be fooled, they're fake, and on checking sure enough there was no payment in his account.
He had to re-list the phone 4 times before managing to get a genuine buyer.

Hope this helps mate.......

Same thing happened to me - luckily I cottoned on to it - they even sent a fake paypal thing - I don't see what they expect to get out of it but I suppose some poor people have ended up losing out!

Exactly the same thing happened to my dad's wife when she was selling a car recently. It was a scam from Nigeria, the guy offered to pay the transportation fee and also a bit more than the asking price. She didn't know it was a scam and gave them the address to send the cheque to. As soon as she mentioned it to us we put her straight. We told her to ask a few questions over email and told her she would hear nothing back. She did and never heard anything again and subsequently tore the cheque up.

Apparently when you pay the cheque into your bank it does cash the cheque and the money goes into your account. Then the scam is found and the bank takes the money back out of your account. It is something to do with the clearing system of their bank. All very, very dodgey and apparently it happens on lots of car/bike sales

Thanks for this, I have not used Ebay in a long long while so would have been none the wiser, thanks for informing me. Is it just things like phones and cars they are doing it to or other stuff? My sister is ALWAYS buying stuff on Ebay but more clothes and dvds stuff like that and they always seem to come so maybe they are just targeting bigger stuff???

As far as I know, it's high cost items that are easy to resell and have fairly constant value across different countries - so yes, mobile phones and cars are good targets, it's definitely not everything (or, not most things). Again, I'd point you in the direction of Ebay forums, just search for what interests you, you'll be amazed at the wealth of info!
Good luck with selling the chocolate phone (if it really was made of chocolate, I would have bought it from you by now! Shame!)
