Techy TV/DVD Home Cinema Setup question

OK, I know this isn't the most interesting of subjects for a Thursday morning leading up to a big weekend but I need some advise from techy's on the board.

I've purchased a new Samsung TV and DVD home Cinema system, I've connected the DVD to the TV via the scart lead, so when I play DVD/CD's it comes through the TV as well as the Home Cinema, the problem I'm trying to over come is being able to listen to the TV (Analogue or Intergrated Freeview) through the Home Cinema, how can I achieve this? I have numerous AV/Video ins and outs but I still can't seem to get the TV sound to come through the home cinema? I'm sure my set-up is wrong somewhere but can anyone give me any pointers as to where?

I pressume you mean the AV receiver on the DVD? Will this then run through the aux channel?

I guess - is the DVD player connected directly to the speakers (as in, it's a DVD/surround sound amp combined) or have you got a separate amp? If it's combined then I think you need to plug the tv sound out into the DVD player and it should work.

Just try lots of different combinations

its an all in one so I'll try your method.

thx

I've got a similar problem - I can only play dvds and cds through surround sound. I can't seem to connect my freeview recorder to the back speakers - only the front two.

Very annoying.

As Zarbtron says , you need a line out , this should be done by your scart, couple of reasons why it may not be working , 1, wrong input on audio unit selected, 2 , faulty scart or on some of the cheaper one`s they only have 10 connections instead of 21, try a different scart lead, 3, check which socket is is plugged into on the TV, some of them are only inputs on the TV, try a different socket, (sometimes marked with a small circle with an arrow in it, pointing into, out, or both , you need the both)
If no luck with those, you may have a phono (RCA) line out on the TV ? use something like the below cable to connect,ttp://www.cabling4less.co.uk/Audio_Video_Cables.php? referrer=overture
if it is really posh you may have a toslink optical output, use this if you have it , best quality, http://www.amazon.com/Parts-Express-Optical-Cable-ft/dp/B0002MQGOA

Have a good one

ps long bit below, but is a common mistake and waste of money :-)

Gold-plated SCART connectors, which do not corrode and deliver a cleaner signal, might be preferable, although they always cost more than nickel ones. However, gold-plated connectors only give better performance when both plug and socket are gold plated. Gold and nickel are galvanically very different metals, and although inserting a gold-plated plug into a nickel plated socket may make a small difference at first, any atmospheric moisture that is present near the connector will cause an electrolytic reaction between the dissimilar metals. This will result in the nickel-plated connector corroding much more rapidly than it would if both connectors were nickel-plated. For good long-term connection quality it is always better to use matching connector materials.

have a look at your audio settings in the freeview box, It may be set to output stereo not the Dolby encoded signal your receiver is looking for,

Thats because TV is only in stereo, not surround sound. There should be a way of doing dolby through it though, but I don't know how

But I can record a film off the telly - write it to dvd and play it through my surround sound system to get the full effect.

(Blimey - how boring are we today?)

I've had more birds than you've hat hot dinners mate. You calling me a batty boy? 8O *oof*

Just to save you all looking, I can confirm that there are no pictures of people wearing hat hot dinners in the manner described above on the internet anywhere.
