i am haveing a nightmare trying to get insurance for the summer and need help as to what else i need to do to make it leagl - ie i have been told an english MOT is invalid in spain and what about tax?

If you haven't got insurance already, you can do it this way.
There is a company in Majorca called Abbeygate. Google it.
They will insure UK reg cars. The car is then insured for any driver.
You then can sworn your car as off the road. So you don't pay road tax. But watch out for the customs guys at Dover as sometimes they look. Maybe sworn it after you leave.
Your UK MOT is ok in Spain and is accepted by Abbeygate. Or, if it runs out whilst you are down here you can put a Spanish ITV on it at the testing station in Santa Gertrudis. Remember to stick the headlight deflecters on, get them in Halfords.
In theory you are not meant to have a car here for longer than six months, however it is not normally enforced. Remember to bring the reg docs and always carry your licence.
