Street Traders and Beggars

These people are pleasant, but they do appear quite alot.

San Antonio Bay area - A group of ladies (African complexion) were physically grabbing people off the street and tying charm bracelets on their wrists without their consent, and then demanding 20 euros. This happened to me at the promenade near Ocean beach. She was a happy looking lady but she would not let me go until I gave her money.

Ibiza Town - Saw a few local beggars (less than 5) asking for change. They were old and barely had the strength to get up. They seemed nice, and were very happy when I gave them some loose change.

Playa d'en bossa beach - Beach Traders selling watches and Sun glasses. (African complexion) They were patrolling the beach, but they will not bother you too much. Just a simple "hello, would you like to buy one of these.....?" and if you reply with a simple "No thank you" they will leave you alone and continue their journey. They are easy to spot because they are the only people on the beach wearing clothes. They are pleasant. I rested in the shade beside two of them.

Who else has had their share of street traders and beggars on Ibiza? Overall I was impressed there were so few. I see far more here in Britain.

The bracelet women seem to have the knack to zoom in on all the innocents who in their innocence don't really know what is happening....in a sense. (JCC)

Once you work the bracelet women out you are fine. We spent an afternoon watching them from Itaca and the number of people they trap is unbelievable.

The Looky Looky men are all decent people and just trying to earn a living, no problem with them at all.

We saw so some pissed up Brits abroad taking the piss out of one last year and a mate stepped in to help the situation. Don't understand lowlifes who feel they are better than them? The guy was just trying to do his work and didnt want any hassle, but you would be stupid to take it further. Think my mate saved the pissed lads more the the Looky Looky.

We were on San An beach and saw a couple get talked into having a single braid each tied into their hair for which the woman wanted 50 euros after! I think she got about 20! The guy took his straight out too!

I got done off the charm bracelet women couple a years ago. Was ragin :) Felt a right Rodney Delboy Chicken Nugget.
Just dont shake their hand and you'll get away!

One year me n the mrs got into a drunken discussion with a couple a old cowboy dudes in San An who looked like they came over in the 70s and forgot to go home. Shared a pizza n a bottle of Buckfast with them.

Also up in Dalt Villa we got lost and ended up walkin thru what felt like a family squatting in an empty part. The Da was sitting on a car seat while the kids chased chickens about.

Only one that annoys me is the fruit guy on the beach shoutin "Coco Loco, Coco Loco! Natural Viagra!" :D

Sounds like you wondered into sa penya via dalt villa.chickens, car seats and cowboy hats I think we know who that guy is.

Guys selling sunnies on the beach are harmless , just dont try n steal a pair from em as i saw a young plucky guy try... they are sharp and do not miss a trick!

Nice article Phil

Never any bother with the looky looky men (and a few laughs on occasion)

One unfortunate thing I did notice last year was the prostitutes in PdB were very aggressive when walking past them, grabbing arms and trying not to let you get past. I think they were trying to prey on the very drunk...

The looky looky men are connected to the nigerian mafia so don't mess with them lol ok where do u think they afford 500 raybans from? lol Nah tbf they just tryna make a living like dirk said and i agree man they get ridiculed way too much. As for those african ladies with the bracelets..damn are they still doing that? Lol when i went in 2011 they were still tryna pull that scam. Like someone said best way is to clock onto them.

About 90% of the boys I've encountered have always been brand new, and some recognise you year after year even after you've missed a couple of years. One or two over the yeard have had an attitude but then that could've been down to taking shite off the last punters they spoke to.

The birds have always been a hassle but never had the bracelet thing done. They usually leave you alone when you tell them to. Some tibetan monk chappie actually pulled the namaste bracelet thing on me in San Francisco actually come to think of it

Easy enough to avoid the beggars, didn't actually encounter any of these bracelet scams but as we were quite wary maybe we weren't targeted.

Looky looky men are sound, all of them we came across were polite, didn't pester or hound you, quite a few had a laugh too.

Not true about the lucky lucky men all being nice, there was one in San An last year and the year before who would go up to a girl and give her a 'present' of a bracelet, if she refused he would say, 'its free'...then as soon as you have it on your wrist he wants money...it was just a silly elastic bead thing so i snapped it on purpose in front of him and said 'what bracelet?' he was a nob, quickly left my friend who was the bouncer on the nearest door came over.

walk around the back of Linekars & Itaca until you get to Orange Corner, that's the best way to avoid the braclet ladies in San An ;)
